Tillamook State Forest Work Party

ODF has moved the regularly scheduled work party to be a SOLV Clean Up for Tillamook Bay.  In addition, PUMP has contacted ODF in regards to hosting a work party on the Wilson River Trail for this Saturday, May 16th.  This work party may be led by ODF if staff are available, or it may be led by PUMP if ODF staff are not available.

The work party will start at 9am from the Tillamook Forestry Center.  For folks coming from the Portland area can arrange car pools through the email list or else on the website posting for this event.  Carpools are typically arranged to meet at Cornelius Pass Roadhouse, which also provides an excellent post work party eat spot!

The Wilson River Trail will be the highlight for adult riding during the Saturday morning/early afternoon rides for the Tour de Tillamook.  Please come out and lend a hand to ensure that the trail is open and ridable for the PUMP event and of course for other riding during peak ride season!

I am coordinating with ODF to determine which section of trail we will be working on, but it is likely going to be from Wolf Creek Road towards Cedar Butte Road, on the west end of the Wilson River Trail.  We will be clearing downed trees and limbs, pruning trees and bushes, and repairing trail tread damaged from this winter's storms.

Plan to bring long pants, work gloves, closed toe shoes/boots, hand saws, and lopers.  I will coordinate with ODF regarding the use of additional trail tools for tread repair.  Bring food and water.  I will have gatorade and cliff bars on hand to share with participants.

Feel free to bring you mountain bike for a post work party ride!

Thank you,
Ryan K.

Time Oops!

Sorry, meant to say that we will be working until 1pm, NOT 2pm.  Fred is planning to lead a ride afterwards, starting at 2pm.  This will give people time after the work party to relax, eat and get ready for a fun ride!

If you can't make the work party, don't feel guilty about coming out for the ride - we know that everyone has different schedules and obligations.  The ride is a great way to come meet folks and maybe even learn a new trail!  And, there are lots of work party opportunities and types (ivy pulls, new trail construction, helping to construct Sunday Parkways modular skills features, trail clearing/maintenance, etc.) to try out a different one.

So, if you have some time on Saturday, come out for the work party, ride, or BOTH :)

Good news, Wilson River Trail...

Good news, I just heard from ODF that the South Fork Prison Trailwork Crew was out clearing on the Wilson River Trail today and finished up the section between Wolf Creek Road and Cedar Butte Road.  This was the last major section with downed trees across it.  There is still quite a bit of tread repair to do, and South Fork will be working on that this week as well.

PUMP will be leading the work party on Saturday, as ODF staff will be fully allocated towards the SOLV Tillamook Bay cleanup.  We will be focused on repairing the tread and pruning along the section working from Cedar Butte Road towards Wolf Creek Road (here is a link to the trail map if you are not familiar with these road crossings http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/TSF/docs/WilsonRiverWestTrail.pdf).  We will still plan to meet at the Tillamook Forestry Center at 9am and will plan to be off the trail and done working by 2pm.

It would be great to have a big volunteer turnout to help finish the remaining repairs on this trail!  Please consider this opportunity to get involved with PUMP and trail work.
