I am leading the non-motorized trail work party for the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) in the Tillamook State Forest tomorrow. Following the work party there is a volunteer recognition BBQ potluck hosted by ODF at the Smith Homestead facility. And, following that, I am probably going to lead a downhill moutain bike shuttle ride on the newly sanctioned downhill mountain bike trail out of Reheers Campground.
For the work party we will meet at 9:30am at the Tillamook Forestry Center located off of Highway 6 (map here: http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/TSF/docs/09docs/09TrailGuideUpdates/WRTJonesKe...). We will be working on the Wilson River Trail headed west from Keenig Creek Campground and will be focused on repairing the trail tread by leveling and properly outsloping the bench cut. We will also be clearing any remaining vegetation that has overgrown this section of trail, but from the last work party where Kirk was present with several of his friends, this section should be pretty clean of foliage. We will plan to work until about 2pm and then head over to the Smith Homestead BBQ. Please bring a dish to share if you plan to attend the BBQ. ODF will provide the burgers/brats/buns. Bring your bike if you want to ride afterwards, it is going to be a great day to work and play in the Tillamook State Forest.
Cheers! Ryan K.
