Post Canyon Trail - Meeting
Post Canyon Planning Meeting: 6-8PM on October 20th, 2009 at the Gorge Room at the Hood River Inn.
Hood River County Forestry Department (HRC), Oregon Parks and RecreationDepartment (OPRD) and the USDA Forest Service, Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area (USFS) are working collaboratively to plan the lower Post Canyon trail area. USFS, OPRD and HRC are working with the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) through a grant of technical assistance to develop the concept plan. RTCA will facilitate the planning process and will work with the other landmanagers over the course of approximately a year on developing a concept plan for the lower Post Canyon trails which are primarily on OPRD and USFS lands. These are not the trails which are managed by Hood River County Forestry Department. For a project area map go to http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll246/rtcasea/LPC_projectarea.jpg The planning effort to date has involved inventorying the existinguser-made social trails (unmanaged, unsanctioned) and the natural resourcesof the project area. The next step is to form a planning team that will make recommendations and help shape the concept plan for the trails. After the completion of the Lower Post Canyon Trails Concept Plan, USFS and OPRD will use the document as a starting point for the formal NEPA and SEPA processes (environmental analysis). We are contacting you specifically because we want to know the interest of your trail-based organization in being a part of the planning team. OPRD, USFS and HRC will be hosting an open house for the lower Post Canyon trails project from 6-8 PM on October 20th, 2009 at the Gorge Room at the Hood River Inn. We will be explaining the background of the project, detail the goals of the effort, seek initial input, and determine who is interesting in “rolling up their sleeves” and committing to being an active member of the planning team that will develop the concept plan. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the project. I can be reached at dan_miller(at)nps.gov or (ph) 360-816-6232. I look forward to seeing you at the open house.
Sincerely,
