Oregon State Forest Values and Beliefs Survey
More info here
A reminder that ODF's survey (www.forestvalues.org/odfsurvey) regarding forest values and beliefs is due APRIL 30! Go to the survey website and fill it out www.forestvalues.org/odfsurvey.
It is critical that the mountain bike community weigh in on land management issues for state forest lands. If you want to see recreation as a priority, diverse new and maintained mountain bike trails - including downhill and freeride - then please take a few minutes and complete this survey. Your voice counts here and this is a very important time to be telling the State of Oregon how you want your forested lands managed. This is just as important as the Forest Park survey that is going on right now and will impact the future of recreation on state forest lands.
During advisory meetings with the Northwest Area District manager the mountain bike community was informed that finalizing the Recreation Management Plan is "not a priority." This is very bad news for recreation in general and the work that the Northwest Trail Alliance and Westside Trail Federation have been doing specifically in the Tillamook State Forest.
Take a few moments today and let the folks that manage the lands that you ride on that recreation is a priority to you.
Thank you,
Ryan K.

Comments from Follow Me last night
If you were paying attention during the introductions to Follow Me (http://www.nw-trail.org/node/2110) last night, you may have heard information about attending the work party at Black Rock tomorrow (http://www.nw-trail.org/node/2117) and about awesome riding opportunities there. And, if you happened to be listening even more closely and are aware of State of Oregon managed forest lands, you may have caught the small error when it was mentioned that the "National Forest Service" and "Bureau of Land Management" have done a great job in working with the mountain bike community to provide for recreational opportunities at Black Rock... well as I hope to now inform you, Black Rock is on State of Oregon managed forest lands, not federally managed forest lands.
My point here is not to draw attention to the error, it is one that I hear a lot from members of the mountain bike community when referring to land management agencies for different riding areas. My point is that Black Rock is on STATE OF OREGON managed forested lands, so that is one more reason why the mountain bike community needs to take some time to fill out the Oregon Department of Forestry's survey today. Other places that you may have ridden that are on state forest lands include: Tillamook State Forest and the Santiam State Forest (home of the Shellburg Freeride Mountain Bike Trails http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/northcascade/nonmotorizedtrails.shtml).
Be sure to write in the first two comment boxes about the need for prioritizing recreation and specifically mountain biking on state forest lands. The remainder of the survey does not deal with recreation or social aspects of forested land management. The survey is comprised of many poorly worded questions and response choices, but do not worry too much about these. Go ahead and fill in the choices that you feel are meaningful to you or feel free to select "Don't Know" as your response.
I have been receiving emails from members of the mountain bike community confirming that they have completed the survey, so a big Thank You to those that have already taken some time to fill it out. We'll definitely be tracking the outcome of the information collected by ODF through this effort.
I just filled mine out
I just filled out the survey. It took about 5 or so minutes. Be sure to add comments regarding recreation since the survey completely neglects solicitation of public comment on management of public forest land for recreation.
Thank you,
Ryan K.
