Event description

Event Description:

NWTA, Portland Design Works and Crestline Construction are supporting this year’s Falls Creek Trail Work Party + Campout!

Last year, NWTA and Friends of Falls Creek started a reroute of the gravel road section of Falls Creek Trail to create a better rider experience. The reroute is nearly complete and is our primary goal for this year’s party. The final section requires trail building machines to work through the dirt and volunteers will finish the trail by hand post machine work.

Crestline Construction of The Dalles provided a generous donation to help us fund the NEPA process to make this epic reroute happen.

We’ll have work to do on both Saturday and Sunday. Please join us for one or both days for work or for work and riding and camping!

Campout Details:

We will set up a primitive campground for our group at the intersection of NF-76 and NF-121. Please click on the “Show on Google Maps” link for dropped pin. We’ll have a number of pop up tents to serve as Basecamp and our camp kitchen space with lots of room for dispersed tent sites.

This is dispersed type camping with no water.  Please bring water with you, as there are no water sources near camp. We will have a basic latrine bathroom available for our group.

No Northwest Forest Service passes required.

Food Served:

Portland Design Works will be providing dinner on Saturday night following the work party as well as breakfast on Sunday morning. Your registration helps us to plan on how much food to bring with us.

Please bring your own lunch and snacks for Saturday and/or Sunday. And please remember to bring plenty of water with you.

Tools:

NWTA will be bringing tools for our group to use. Please bring a hard hat if you have one available to you, USFS requires all trail work volunteers to wear. Please also bring work gloves, heavy boots and a means to bring water with you onto the trail.

Directions from Stevenson, WA:

Please note the last couple miles into this area is rough, with a lot of potholes.  It does not require 4 wheel drive, but probably not suitable for low clearance cars.

Take Hwy 14 going east, turn north on Windy River Hwy towards Carson, WA, go through Carson and follow hwy for another 2-3 miles, turn right onto Old State Road (Panther Creek), then immediately turn left onto FR-65, follow FR-65 for 10-12 miles, (pass Panther Creek Trailhead) once road turns to gravel bare left onto FR-67, continue to bare left at each intersection and follow the signs to camp from there.

Registration:

Please register for this event so we know how many people are coming and how much food to purchase. If you register and cannot attend, PLEASE let us know a week in advance so we don’t purchase too much food.
