TECH TALK:  Suspension Tuning and Trail side Repairs

Cyclepath will host this month’s Tech Talk with guest presenter Tori Bortman of Gracie’s Wrench.  If you’ve been curious about what to do if your bike breaks on your ride or what suspension adjustments can do to your ride, come to this month’s Northwest Trail Alliance member meeting!

Dial in your squish. Suspension setup can make or break your ride but dialing it in can be intimidating.  The experts at Cyclepath will show us how to set up our suspension for the type of trails we ride, with an emphasis on adjustments for lighter riders.  We’ll get familiar with the suspension systems on our bikes, such as sag, dampening, volume spacers and shock pressure, and discuss how even tire pressure can help us maximize our squish.

Fix it on the fly. Broken chains, flat tires and bent rotors or derailleurs do not have to signal the end of your ride.  Tori will go over some preventative maintenance, must-haves in your tool kit and quick trail side repairs you can make on the fly.

Bring your questions! These will be open discussions with plenty of time to ask questions of the experts.  While we won’t be dialing in individual bikes, please feel free to bring your favorite steed and park it inside the shop.

Cyclepatha long-time supporter of the NWTA  and of the mountain bike community in general, is a full service bike shop and custom bike love is what they’re all about. They specialize in custom builds but sell bikes at a variety of price points to get you on the trail.  Their well-seasoned technicians will take great care of your bike whether we are doing a new build from scratch or you’re bringing in your 1986 Bianchi Volpe to get freshened up.
Tori Bortman is the Owner of Gracie’s Wrench, an education and consulting service that helps people learn riding skills and how to repair and maintain their own bikes. She’s been teaching for over 15 years and has classes in everything from how to tune-up your own bike to teaching people to ride a bike for the very first time, and everything in between. Tori’s at her happiest when playing in the dirt, ether adventuring on two wheels or joining in on trail maintenance and build projects.

When:  Tuesday, April 30th;  6-7pm social/beer hour, 7-8pm info hour.

Where:  CyclePath, 2436 NE MLK Blvd, Portland OR 97212
