Seeking trail manager for Storey Burn trail loop

There seems to be some misunderstanding about the Sickter Lars loop at Storey Burn.   That trail was NOT designed by Westside Trail Federation.   It was originally planned in collaboration between a local advanced cross-country rider (Lars) and Oregon Department of Forestry.   When W.T.F. initially approached ODF about vision to develop a FR/DH network of trails in vacinity (across the valley on Larch Mountain)... the group was first tasked with helping finish up that technical trail loop before they'd consider any other mountain biking trails in "Mountain bike area #1".

W.T.F. completed the loop in July 2007, and threw a BBQ to celebrate our "done" status on that.  After that...  "We are remaining open/available for further planning on FR/DH trail network in "Mountain Bike Area #1" project area as ODF works through revision of management strategy for Tillamook State Forest. "

But this volunteer group does not own maintenance of that trail loop (it's outside of scope of type of trails we have been planning within Tillamook)...   We recently had a meeting with ODF Forest Grove district managers to discuss status - and one thing was made clear - ODF needs to make sure a volunteer group is tasked with ongoing maintenance of that trail loop.

Are there any PUMP members who regularly ride Storey Burn area?  Willing to collaborate with ODF to handling ongoing maintenance of that technical trail loop known as "Sickter Lars"?  It's in need of some love and care...   cuz right now it's very much orphaned.   (got orphaned by Lars, and W.T.F. helped ODF knock it out to completion so we could start having dialog about DH trails on Larch... but we sure don't own it just cuz we touched it last!)

Thanks for the update!

I think it would be great if this trail is maintained and improved, with the guidelines that ODF says. It is not a really long trail and with some work can be a very fun little trail.

Sickter Lars Trail is free of downed trees!

Please go ride and enjoy the Sickter Lars Trail!  Two weekends ago, I was out with ODF and removed nine trees that had fallen across the trail and also did quite a bit of pruning.  I will be back out again soon to finish up the pruning work.  The trail is in great shape and generally holds up well during wet weather.  I will also be working this year to improve on trail drainage and maintain/improve the technical aspects of the trail.

one of my favs.

this  is one of my favorites! I make sure that I ride this at least once every time I'm riding the brown's camp area.  I usually park at that trail head, ride sickter lars right off the bat, then do a loop back to the car (18miles) and ride once more before I go home.  To clean it all can be challenging.  I've allways wanted to see more trail like that built out there, there's a lot of potential in that area.  I was out there before all the trees and blowdown were removed(thanks!!!) I'd be happy to share any duties in that area seeing I ride there a bunch.

Great to hear!

If you are interested in attending a work party, there is one this Saturday - May 16th on the Wilson River Trail (check out the post and RSVP here: http://www.pumpclub.org/node/996#comment-863).  There will be a ride afterwards.  Feel free to check out one or both of these events (ride or work party)!
