Results of 12/7 build day at Stub Stewart State Park
Yet
another perfect day for trail building! Thanks to all volunteers who
came to help continue build out of the mountain biking zone trails.
There were 10 local mountain bikers that gave up a Sunday to help
Oregon Parks & Recreation build some of the first single-track in
an Oregon State Park...
We cleared more maintenance access
corridor (cut logs into manageable sections and consolidated into
stacks for later removal). Took out some small stumps (not a small
task! thanks for the hard work on that!) Our main focus was on raised
section of single-track with grade reversals ("rollers") through a
relatively flat terrain section. We're setup well for a solid work
party on December 20th (next Stub work party) - we'll be hopping across
two drainages and continuing build of single-track along Hares
Canyon. Oregon Parks & Recreation has secured labor funding,
materials, and engineering specs for the bridges which will go over the
drainages (project timeline shows them in place by Summer).
Meanwhile back on the single-track with 24" tread...
Raised
trailbed...Note crested grade of tread (middle rounded) - that'll
quickly pack down once users start riding it... and the logs are
basically temporary forms to help hold material in place while it packs
in over couple seasons of riding. This whole section of trail is
designed to have raised tread out of the potential muck (can't bench
cut as there isn't much of a grade through this 100 yards). "Plan B"
for this section is to build a low, 48" wide "boardwalk" - however,
that's an improvement which would would need to be maintained and would
have a cost for materials instead of simply raising the trailbed.
Gathering dirt from a nearby spot to use on trailbed...
A baby roller (technically a "grade reversal") is being born...
Stomping the tread... (a plate compactor would sure come in handy 'bout now...)
