2009 biker trail dig days at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park "mountain biking zone"
My goal is to have ridable single-track out-and-back style trail in place by June 6th for the National Trails Day / State Parks Day celebration at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park.
As build out continues, the mountain bike zone trails will link with
existing shared-use trails (perhaps Banks-Vernonia trail) that will
make for a larger loop. The current segments that will be built this
year will eventually serve dual use - both as part of a family fun
cross-country and all-mountain trail network as well as access trail
for freeride users heading up slope to the "freeride zone" (see note
below).
With that objective in mind, and with the go ahead from
park trail manager, we (mountain biking trail builder volunteers) will
focus on benchcutting single-track and clearing maintenance access
corridor during these 2009 work party "dig days" for the currently
under construction mountain biking zone at Stub:
* Saturday, Feb 28
* Sunday, March 29
* Saturday, April 18
* Sunday, May 3
* Saturday, May 23
* Sunday, June 28
All
dig days - sign-in at Clayhill Horse Parking area at 9am - orientation
at 9:30am to review days tasks. No parking fee for volunteers. Please
no pets or small children. Respect other park users.* Driving Directions * Park brochure with trail map and more info (this does not include mtb zone info)
See
Event Calendar for details about each build day. Keep an eye on the
message board for additional build days - for example, when project
managers have specific tasks to knock out and organizing a team for
upcoming weekend, etc.
Note: There are continuing dialogs
about vision for advanced feature challenge trails and skill areas.
Upon approval by Oregon Parks & Recreation management, local trail
build volunteers stand ready to schedule additional build days to focus
on those proposed trails and features. W.T.F.'s vision for these
additional skill trails was presented to OPRD in 2006. Click here to review the vision document. Additional due diligence is currently taking place within OPRD.

storm damage cleanup
Yesterday small team cleared about 24 downed trees (plus 6 along upper part of Hares
Canyon trail) - sliced them into manageable chunks and consolidated
them into nearby stacks for removal later - cleared from access point
as far as single-track has been pin flagged (3/4 way to proposed skill
area). This will allow teams to focus on digging trail at the next
work party (scheduled for February 28).

Joe,
I'll be trying to get as many unicycle bastards as possible out to dig.
