Surveyor's Ridge/Knebal Springs

As of 6/5/11 trip up to Hwy 44:

Surveyor's has a fair amount of downfall from Shellrock Mt to Rd 17 but its rideable. Below Shellrock Mt is good to go. The last 2 mi from Rd 17 to the trailhead is a mess of snow and logs so skip that. Did not ride Dog River, but a fair number of people were, so I assume its rideable. No idea on Oak Ridge.

We did check out Eight Mile and Knebal Springs briefly - it looked like crews had started to log out Eight Mile (thanks USFS!) but there was still a good amount of snow in the trees. Lots of snow up on Lookout Mt.

Dog River - Surveyors - Oakridge

Dog River and Oakridge are clear (and in great shape!). I heard they were cutting out the rest of Surveyors Sunday afternoon. We hiked through the downfall - wasn't too bad, some upper body cross training!

Hoping 8-mile and Knebal are clear soon!!

8-Mile is open

8-mile is completely clear of downfall and there were no snow patches yesterday anywhere on the trail.  It's in great shape, too, with tons of wildflowers.

black bear sighting

I rode Surveyor's ridge yesterday and saw a black bear cross the road about 25 yards in front of me.  Fortunately, the bear was running away from me.  I was on FR 17 right around Shellrock mountain when it happened.  Just something to keep in mind next time you're out there!
