Forest Park Closures

From James Allison of Parks & Recreation:

Leif Erikson Trail will be closed from the NW Thurman Gate to NW Germantown Road from June 8 through late July while culverts are repaired at these mile posts: 3.04, 5.22, 5.44, 5.65, and 8.72. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-5:00 PM. Evenings and weekends, the trail will be open, but the road surface at the culverts will likely be disturbed. Users need to use caution and be aware of the construction sites. Trails intersecting Leif Erikson Trail will remain open, but park users are asked to exercise caution when crossing.

Forest Park Tree Cutting
During the week of September 4, Kinder Morgan Energy will cut and limb as many as 60 trees in their gas-line easement through Forest Park.  The purpose of this work is to protect an existing high-volume, liquid petroleum line that runs from the NW Portland industrial area to Eugene, Oregon. Kinder-Morgan has a legal easement through Forest Park for the purpose of maintaining this infrastructure.  Kinder Morgan will remove trees that directly threaten the gas-line.  The project will create snags and wildlife habitat improvements wherever possible.  All trails will remain open. However, flaggers will be present along trails to ensure safety for workers and the public.  Some recreation use may be delayed briefly when work is in close proximity to trails.
