Home stretch at Stub for phase 1 XC single-track trail loop!

Just provided a project status update to stakeholders involved, and figured interested mountain biking community members would like to know details as well...

Main goal - complete initial phase 1 single-track trail loop with
emergency access corridor leading to proposed location of lower skill
area.

Park tasks outstanding (just listing what I'm aware of based on discussions with park ranger/trail manager):

1. coordinate with contractor to construct 1st and 2nd drainage crossings
2. corridor grading
3. removal of stumps on corridor
4. placement of kiosk at trailhead
5. kiosk signage
6.
on-trail orientation signage    (W.T.F. volunteers willing to provide
input/review - have ideas for some key points signage on trail would be
needed for risk management)    "more difficult" pointers as well as the
markers following standard "green circle", "blue square", and "black
diamond" trail difficulty notation - familiar to most mountain biking
specific trail users.

Outstanding To Do items for volunteer team:

1. complete A-frame filter at trailhead (rungs) - this is mainly "psychological" filter but also serves as minimal skill filter
2.
complete Caddy Whomper Way corridor re-route to connect with existing
skid road near proposed skill area - additional 200 yards of duff
removal plus finishing pass along entire length (~2,000 yards -
guessing)
3. complete single-track linking trail to form phase 1 loop - about 2,000 yards (guessing)
4.
finishing work on 1.5 miles of single-track:  tamping, erosion control
grading, duff broadcasting, consolidation of branches (limbed) for
removal

The following are scheduled volunteer build days advertised on event calendars (http://westsidetrailfederation.org, http://nw-trail.org, and http://pedalnation.org):

Sunday, June 14th 9am  (6 hr)

Monday, June 15th 5:30pm (3 hr)

  Also, please remember

Also, please remember that L.L. Stub Stewart State Park is considered a Portland Metro state park.  It's in your backyard... 30 miles to the west.

For those living in Beaveron/Hillsboro area, it's a quick 30 minute drive from doorstep to parking area.

And, NW Trail Alliance representatives (Roger Louton and Wayne Naillon particularly) were instrumental in early planning public input meetings to make sure there was mountain biking specific trails.  The trail plan included a zone set aside just for mountain biking users (no hikers, no equestrian users) on east side of Hares Canyon within park.

When this area opens up (with continued help from mountain biking trail build volunteers), then NW Trail Alliance will have something to be proud of - this will be mountain biking specific (built by mountain bikers for mountain bikers) single-track in an Oregon State Park!

  Today Keith and I

Today
Keith and I completed routing the last section of single-track and did
brush back to link with corridor - forming the loop for phase 1. On
June 28th, a private volunteer group will be coming out to complete the
corridor brush back and benching.

Trail for phase 1 is about 90% done (the route is complete but there are sections that need further work to complete).

Here's the GPS track captured today - single-track and up and back
on corridor... Loop is 1.5 miles in length. There's plan for a short
loop out to a Viewpoint that'll add about 1/4 mile. Phase 2 XC trail
will extend around the large drainage and down the length of Hares
Canyon (adding 3 or 4 miles).

There are 3 technical skill trails proposed (by Westside Trail Federation) along with a skill area that will provide separate opportunities for riders (DH/FR).
