Friends of Powell Butte Meeting Update 6/18/09
Some very exciting things will be happening on Butte soon! There will be summer concerts, movies and a whole lotta dirt being moved around this summer. There will also be an East Portland Expo happening July 24, 25,and 26 at the Ed Benedict Community Park. This event is being sponsored in part by the Bike Gallery. There will also be many neighorhood associations at this event, making it a great opportunity for out reach about NWTA and the Butte.
Digging for the reservoir is scheduled to start July 20th. While the digging is going on it's est. that there will be about 300 truck trips a day leaving the Butte. During this time the main parking lot will be closed, but the trails will be open. There are a few points that trails will cross the road. It sounds like the Water Bureau is taking steps to reduce the number of these crossings and provide safe crossings when they do happen. Still, please be aware. The Water Buerau will also be setting up an "observation deck" to watch the digging.
The Trail Refinement Plan timeline has been moved up to be scheduled to start in the Sept./Oct time frame. There is an request for bids out to the community currently. The plan will be looking at the trails, where they are and how they are used.
Ray Bayley and many volunteers did some great work at the last work party (June 13). The next work party is July 11th, 9 AM meeting at the parking lot. If you enjoy the Butte, please come and help maintian the trails!
As I said, there are many things happening with the Butte and many chances to get involved.
Happy Riding!

Powell Butte
It was a really great meeting. The Parks Dept. and the Water Bureau are really interested in working with the community and really appreciate the work that NWTA/PUMP has and is doing on the Butte. I would encourge everyone to enjoy the Butte.
