Mt St Helens area Work Parties
Thanks to Joe Barcott, Charlie Biggs, Bob and Becky Horness and James Ceccorulli for helping out in several work parties that have been held during week days around Mount St Helens. To date we have been able to accomplish some work on the old portion of Road 83 open to mountain bikers, some work on the South Coldwater trail, and also some on the Ape Canyon/Loowit Trail on the east side of the mountain. On Thursday five of us stablized the Loowit Trail on the Plains in one of the gullies, constructed some water bars, and trimmed a patch of willows at the waterfall. The tools now await our work party on Sunday June 28th for some further trail stabilization and reconstruction work up on the Plains of Abraham.

getting ready to remove those two downed trees.
Celebration time! The trees are gone! It's clear sailing on the trail! (l-r: James Ceccorulli, Charlie Biggs, Bob Horness).
The Ape Canyon Trail is now in good condition. The upper part is a bit brushy, and there are no downed trees, but otherwise it is in fine condition.

South Coldwater Trail, Mount St Helens
The Growlers Gulch Trail Crew has gotten trail 230A in fine shape. You can read about it on Jim LeMonds's website at: http://writeteknorthwest.com/archives/1354/south-coldwater-trail-report
Next time you want to go exploring, consider the South Coldwater Trail on the north side of Mount St Helens - off Highway 504.
