Sat, 10/24/2009 - 9:30am - 1:00pm

Saturday October 24th, NWTA will assist with a Mount Hood work party on the Bottle Prairie Trail off Road 44.

Depending on weather, we will arrange vehicles to finish the work party with a ride down Dog River.

Halo on the Hood by patmans.

We'll group up there
We'll be up at the trailhead by 10 am.
Please bring for your own safety, comfort and general happiness:
Lunch, water, long pants, hiking boots, gloves, bike helmet or hardhat

Please bring enough NWTA tools to outfit club members for the day's work: Shovels, hoes, wheelbarrows, pulaskis and plastic buckets

The USFS will provide some tools.
Depending on the number of people, I may not have enough to go around.
Wrap things up around 3pm
Things to remember:
  • It gets dark at 4pm.
  • It could be cold. It could be wet. It's late October on the Mt. Hood National Forest.

Please sign up below if you plan on attending.

Optional ride plan:

For those who want to ride following the work project you might consider this option.

Even though the work project is going until 3PM, Ted Dodd will stop work around 2PM so that he can change into bike clothes and ride Dog River Trail as a shuttle.  For those who don’t know, Bottle Prairie is higher in elevation off of FR44 and in the neighborhood close to the start of Dog River.  Thus, the group will ride directly from the work project and ride the Dog River Trail down to Hwy 35 where the shuttle vehicles will be waiting.

People that are planning to ride should meet at Dog River Coffee in Hood River at 9:00am.  Our goal is to set up the shuttle prior to the start of the work project.

Note – Be prepared for the weather and bring the proper clothes

  • Ride level will be Advanced, but not Gonzo.

Suggested items to bring:

  • Lights (if you have) due to our late ride start
  • Extra towels to minimize the mud in the shuttle cars
  • Change of clothes

Price: $0.00

Ride plans

Yes we are riding Saturday following the work project.  The plan is to ride Dog River Trail down to Hwy 35 where we will have a shuttle vehicle waiting.

Riders are meeting at Dog River Coffee in Hood River at 9AM and then drive up to the lower Dog River parking area to set up the shuttle.  From there we are proceeding to your work project meeting location (Bottle Pairie area).

PS - Thanks JPDX for the trail advisory.  Crashing should always be avoided.  :-)

Dog River

FYI on Dog River trail, I rode it yesterday and had a few down trees along the way. One sneaks up on your around a fast corner; caused me to wipe out actually! Otherwise great ride and great fall colors towards the bottom.

carpool from Gateway?

Anyone interested in carpooling from Gateway?

carpool from Gateway

Would love to carpool from Gateway! I'm planning to do the shuttle ride, so meeting at Dog River Coffee at 9. I'm not sure which vehicle I'll have that day--the Subi has room for bikes on top but a white interior not well suited to muddy activities; the pickup is a squeeze for more than two but doable. Also happy to contribute gas money.

carpool from Gateway

I have room for four, currently have two and we need a shuttle vehicle. I'd probably bring the pickup. Meet at Gateway at 8?

carpooling

Gateway at 8 it is. My cell is 503-490-0180.

carpool

I am most likely going and would also like to carpool from Gateway. I would love to not have to drive and instead chip in gas $$ if anyone is willing. Hoping to ride afterwards -- the shuttle of Dog River or otherwise.

Work / Ride / Learn

This is a great opportunity to give back to a great trail and support a land manager that supports mtn bikers.

If you don't know this area (& related trails), a workparty is the best way to connect with people who do.

This event gives you the opportunity to help maintain a trail, learn about the trails in the area, and get a ride in.
