"Timberline to Town" trail

Anybody know anything about the "Timberline to Town" trail that was meant to be an intermediate alternative to Glade and Alpine up on Mt Hood? I heard about it recently over a post ride beer and all I can find on the innernets is a 2005 UFS planning report. 4 appendices supporting its construction here: http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHMF_enUS302US304&aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q="Timberline+to+Town"+mt+Hood+bike+trail

 Was it ever built?

Are thinking about the

Are thinking about the Pioneer Bridal trail?  You can connect to that from Timberline and ride it to Rhododendron. I don't think the trail from Timberline is a designated MB trail.

Speaking of a Timberland to Town ride...

What is the best way to take that ride?  I saw some options on my map but am wondering if others have done the ride and have any suggestions.

Turning food into poop since 1978.

Nope. I'm looking for a

Nope. I'm looking for a "new" trail literally named "Timberline to Town" that I'm hearing hasn't left paper yet.

I'm familiar w/ both the Glade and Alpine trails from Timberline down to Goverment Camp. I just did a shuttle ride last wknd that ran down Glade, connected to Crosstown Tie, and then dropped down Pioneer Brindle -not Bridle or Bridal- to the US26 xing.

The ride is pretty straightforward. As a shuttle, park the lower vehicle near the W-bound snowchain removal area on 26 - see detailed location pics on www.facebook.com/pdx.mtb - and then take the upper vehicle up to TImberline. ...you'll frequently see a knot of mtb vehicle parked in the far SE corner of the main lot. Catch the top of the Glade trail just past the main chairlift that's ferrying folks up the mtn and follow it down to Crosstown TIe. There's only one intersection on Glade and thats Alpine. BOth will take you to Crosstown or down into Guvvy. Hang a R onto Crosstown and follow it to the Glacier View TH where it connects to Brindle. It's important to note that there's usually a good deal more hiker and two-way biker traffic on Crosstown and it's offshoot trails, so be heads up. Take a moment at the Glacier View TH to study the trail map bc there's a small interconnected group of trails in that area that confuse some people. Once you have a feel for dropping down Brindle, the only intersection you'll find is the R just after the old tunnel. Skip it. It takes you down to the Kiwanis Camp -which I hear is not a positive experience- and a long climb back out. Stay on the main trail and bomb down to the lower vehicle. It's a blast. Have fun.

You can also do this ride as a long loop by climbing up the Still Creek Rd, but you'll have to refer to the books/maps/net as I haven't done it yet. I prefer to climb trail over gravel roads.

 cheers,

Wrong Info??

Matthew,

I think you may have misread the signs with the Pioneer Bridle trail name.  All the references on the Mt Hood/Government Camp information and tourism web pages call the shuttle trail you are refering to the Pioneer Bridle Trail, not Brindle, and I pretty clearly remember reading Bridle as I rode the connection of Crosstown to Bridle just a few days ago.

One example:   http://www.mthoodterritory.com/packets/ride_12.pdf

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong and there is another trail that goes along nearly the same route that's called Brindle.

Timberline to Town

Hi Matthew,

I just went out on a scouting ride in search of the elusive "Timberline to Town" trail a couple of weeks ago. The trail simply hasn't been built yet. That's the best way to describe it. There is a section called the "camp creek" that they've put a lot of work into that section in the past year, but it's only about 1 to 2 miles at most that diverges off the Crosstown Trail. As for the "Timberline to Town" I road up the Glade Trail recently and tried to follow ribbons that appear to mark where the trail is supposed to be, but it's overgrown and a lot of blow-down and again there just isn't a trail as far as I can see... I'd love to know otherwise, so if you find something please share. And yes, I'd volunteer to put in some trail work days up there to help build the "Timberline to Town" trail if anyone is listening....

Skibaru, do you have any input?

Found this, perhaps what you're talking about....

Go to:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mthood/projects/

Then scroll to "Government Camp Trails
Project"

The EA direct link is:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mthood/projects/gov-camp-trails-ea/FINALGOVERNME...

and the Decision Notice is here:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mthood/projects/gov-camp-trails-ea/FinalGovernme...

Snippet:

"An Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared for the Government Camp Trails Project. This area is located in T4S, R9E; T5S, R9E; Willamette Meridian. The project area is located in the Zigzag and Salmon River Watersheds.

The purpose of the Government Camp Trails Project is to provide a safe, low maintenance, trail system designed for year-round recreation that links Government Camp to key destinations in the Mt. Hood National Forest that surround the community. The trail system and trailhead parking are designed to reduce conflicts with local businesses, ski areas, and residences."

Jan Sands is the main proponent of this trail, from the documentation, listed as a Govy resident.

I have nothing else, but this may get you further.

Cheers

Finished

This trail was finished.  I have been on the lower portion (we hit it while riding down the glade) and was told that the top is somewhere near the Blossom lift.  He described it as the "old mans" glade and it winds down the mountain with lots of side hilling rather than vertical drop/rise.  I hope to look for it (hopefully there is a sign at the top) this weekend.  There certainly will be fresh cut ground as I was told the top was completed just 2 weeks ago.

almost finished

The "Cross Town Trail" will run from Government Camp to Rhododendron when finished this August (2011). It was partly built with stimulus money.  The trail can be shuttled and rode 15.5 miles when connected to other trails. Our own Alpine on Mt. Hood.
