HUNTERS @ Scappoose
I was riding last Sunday with a buddy and ran across a hunter. I know the land is privately owned by timber companies. Is this a legal past time out there? It kind of sketched me out. Is this legal with the land owners permission? Is this something we should be very cautious of?
He mentioned that there were 2 gun shots early that morning. I'm assuming they were hunting deer? Does anyone have inset on this?

Deer Hunting will be open until November
Attached is a copy of the Oregon hunting seasons. Be careful out there and wear bright colors! There will be hunters across many of the ares we ride.

hunters
I saw two deer hunters at Gale's Creek Campground on Sunday, I've only seen elk hunters in the area before.
I've never seen deer out there, just elk, one bear ;-) plus various other critters.
There are quite a few elk hunters around the Tillamook / Gale's Creek area when the season opens - according to the link Jordan posted, November 14-17 and November 21-27.
I would avoid the Tillamook area around those dates, given the number of hunters, and the size of the rifles!

But does Longview Fibre allow hunting on their land?
Good info on hunting, but does anyone know the answer to the original question? I'm curious about this, too. I guess, depending where you are @Scappoose, private land is adjacent to the LF land and the hunters may have been just using LF land to access the private land, though, and who knows where the shots actually came from...
A great reminder regarding hunting though... Falls Creek and Syncline come to mind when thinking about places that are common for hunters. Syncline land owners typically make an annual request during the time that they will be hunting on the private parcels of Syncline. Keep your pets close and wear your bright colors.
Their Web Site Says Yes
Longview Fibre's web site says they allow hunting and fishing. I'm not sure what the terms are.

They mention the hunting and fishing and the very bottom.

People with guns in
People with guns in the woods shouldn't sketch ya out - after all - that's been a far older activity to do in the woods than riding bikes (which is just weird... *grin*).
Found this sentence in that page interesting: "better ways to merchandise logs"
If value of lumber is X board feet (divided by 30 - 40 years between harvest), then what would annual revenue need to be (for a tiny parcel like Rocky Point) need to be to make Recreation (think parking permits or event permits or special lease arrangements) a more lucrative endeavour? Hmmmm.
So far....
I haven't had any issues with hunters on the trail. I ran into hunters on Smith Creek and Surveyor's Ridge recently and they have all been friendly. I make it a point to slow down and talk to them. I also leave my antler helmet at home during the fall.

hunters...
Im a hunter and a mountain biker. Most private forest lands are open to hunters unless otherwise posted. its just thats how it always has been. Just if you know there are alot of hunters in the area i wouldnt recommend riding in that area. Just thats my take. if ya are riding in a hunting area i recomend the above, wear bright clothing, prefer orange. DONT wear black or grey or brown colors cause you might be mistaken for a deer, bear, or elk. thanks and happy biking and hunting.
Just a note on hunters this year, danger
I have seen numerous atricles on hunters being shot and/or kiiled by other hunters this year. It seems to have risen quite a bit this year. I think there are alot of hunters that are very desparate to get meat and/or trophys so they are getting more protective and more aggresive of their hunting areas and of any game they have taken. So I would be very much more on the lookout and try to avoid areas with many many hunters around for this year and continuing years later.
