Mount St Helens area Work Hours Increase 60%
NWTA work party hours increased a significant 60% this season over last year on the Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument. In 2010 we put in 466 hours on trails from Siouxon, Chinook Creek, Lewis River, Quartz Creek, and the Loowit Trails. It is great having several people interested in various trail projects around the Monument. Jerry DeRuyter has been a great bundle of energy working tirelessly on Siouxon and Lewis River; Jarred Jackman found the upper Siouxon Trail in need of work and worked to get that trail cleared of previous winter storm damage; Aaron Althauser got us on the seldom seen Quartz Creek trail; and of course I organized several work parties on the Smith Creek and the Loowit on the Plains of Abraham. Thanks to all who participated this season, your help is very much appreciated. Expect more work parties to be organized during the 2010 season - including during the Helens Fest 2010. Applications for a visit by the Trail Care Crew is being processed, and hopefully they will make it out during 2010 as well.

Let's rock it
Thanks Dave
Everyone probably knows, but I think Dave works more than he rides. He's awesome for the trails and the riders in this area. Thanks a lot for being a motivator and role model for how to be a responsible biker in an area that never seems to take a break from dropping trees and growing brush! If you're on a trail in western WA/OR and having fun, somebody spent a lot of time on that trail!
Thanks Dave!
Thanks Jarred!
Jarred:
Thank you too for all the work you have done up there. You also have put a lot of energy in to the trails this season. It is great having people like yourself, and Jerry D. out there doing one heck of a lot of work. And, yes, it did seem like I was doing more work than play on the trails this year. But the work was fun too!
