Volunteers Needed for Events and Programs!
I've just accepted the position of being Program and Event Coordinator for NWTA. I thought this was a natural job for me since I have several good ideas for meeting Programs and am personally working on a fairly big event for the Club - the Helens Fest 2010 in July. If you have ideas for programs, please pass them on well in advance so I can schedule the program. For each meeting the Board is anticipating that the Club’s various committees will meet for about an hour before the general meeting begins at 7:30P. This will give members a chance to socialize with each other and to learn what the committees are doing. It should also encourage member participation in the various committees and activities. During the general meeting, at 7:30p, we will have about 15 minutes devoted to quick announcements with the balance of about 45 minutes devoted to a program of some sort. The January meeting program will be devoted to Mount St Helens since 2010 just happens to be the 30th anniversary of the 1980 eruption. I’ve received ideas on several other program topics so expect a variety of subjects and formats. If you would like to volunteer to be the program for one of our meetings please let me know. After the general meeting ends people will be able to again socialize before riding home.
Everyone likes a Swap Meet there's all kinds of great bargains to be found since it is like a yard sale with many people ready to unload stuff that's been accumulating and no longer needed. Now that I've taken on the responsibility of Event Coordinator it is time to conduct a search of one, or preferably several, people who would like to organize our Swap Meet. I would like to get a Swap Meet scheduled for February 2010. The three intervening months will give us a chance to locate a venue, set the date and move forward with lining up 'vendors' and items to raffle off during the event. Who would like to help put together the Swap Meet? We really need some energetic people to help put this important event together. Please let me know at: david@nw-trail.org. You will get the thanks from many grateful people!
It’s Budget Time for the Board! We are working on next year’s budget for the club. Anyone who would like to organize an event, such as Tour de Tilly, Helens Fest 2010, the Swap Meet, a visit by the IMBA Trail Care Crew, should let me know now what is being planned so we can budget for it. Those who want to lead a ride in 2010, and especially one that may require an outlay of money, should contact the ride coordinator Shane Gould, e-mail: shane@nw-trail.org.
For the bigger events it will be my role as Coordinator to assist the event organizers to make sure they get the help and support they need to put on a successful event. The only event, at this point, that I will be directly organizing is my pet project, Helens Fest 2010 and possibly a visit by the IMBA-Subaru Trail Care Crew. So get involved with your club, help make it the club you want it to be. If you don’t volunteer to help why should anyone else?
Thanks and see you on the trails!
David Anderson Event Co-ordinator and NWTA Board Member.
