Cancelled --Ride the New Sandy River Trails--Please attend work on the 14th.

Date:
Sat, 11/07/2009 - 9:00am - 3:00pm

Come ride the newest trails in area! The BLM and IMBA have been hard at work building one the of the funnest downhills in the area. This trail is about 4 miles long currently with a options to extend. We will be riding up a paved road then flying down a bermed-out and jump filled singletrack trail. We're are planning on doing 2 laps.

Please meet at the South Parking lot for the MAX at Gateway at 8:50am for a carpool.

Sounds like something that could be easily remedied with a creek gap?

Ride cancelled

After further review of the Weather Maps we have decided to cancel the ride tomorrow. The creek will be very high and dangerous to cross.

We encourage everyone to attend the trail work party on the 14th.

Updated The ride is Cancelled

But I have to give a warning about the creek crossing about 1/2 way down. It can be quite high and please expect to get wet when crossing it. We rode it last Saturday in the rain and the crossing was up to our knees.

The rest of the trail is very well constructed and is fine to ride when wet.

rain

How will these trails be in the rain? Ride still on?

I can take one...

...pasenger and bike from the P & R if a solo needs a lift up.  Sounds like a great time.

It is not a bad climb

Sorry MotoXerDad that you had a bad time. It really isn't a bad climb, very comparable to Black Rock or Mt. Fromme in BC as far as length and because it is paved it makes it easier.

But that said, I have strong XC tendencies;)

Agree

I am glad it is not shuttable too and I love DH runs like at Blackrock and on Hood.  But, I also like and hope the trail is one-way only, so one can really enjoy the descent by making the road climb manditory instead of the trail for getting up to the top.  I rode it for the first time a couple of days ago and it was it blast!  The top half down to the nasty creek crossing was some of the best built singletrack trails I have ridden around here.  Top half reminds a bit of North Ridge on Mary's Peak with less roots and more burms.  Lower half of the 4mile section was good too, but wider and not as forested trail surface as above, but good flow overall and lots of burms and mini-dirt jumps to enjoy.  Hopefully I can make the trail build day, cause that place is going to be trail heaven when all done.

  what a beautiful and

what a beautiful and PAVED road to drive up for the shuttle... yet its closed... could be fabulous DH trail yet its a failure because the gate is locked.

Done it once, will never do it again.

Sorry--South Parking lot for Max

Park in the South parking lot for the Max. They will tow you if you park Freddy's.

Jordan

nice

i just heard about this trail so I have some interest. I'm going to try to make it out. will details follow about where to meet exactly? FM parking lot or the actual parking lot for MAX? Thanks.

"meet at Gateway at 8:50am for a carpool "

This is an east side thing... so I'm not too familiar..

Do you mean the Gateway Park & Ride for MAX or what?   If so, cool.  cuz could throw the big bike on train (this is a DH trail right?).

Strongly considering coming to check these trails out.   If they were only shuttleable, THEN we'd be cooking with fire!...

Joe, Yep- it's the Gateway

Joe, Yep- it's the Gateway Park and Ride Area. So throw the big bike on the train!

And, I LOVE it that it's not shuttleable! Don't have to worry about getting ran over while peddling up the hill :) And, it's not a bad climb. You can do it!! It's an AWESOME DH trail!!

Jordan, Is there any more

Jordan, Is there any more detailed info on this trail? Directions to TH, trail signage, etc?

Can it be ridden as an out and back, or is it directional only?

In addition to joining you on the 7th, I'm thinking about heading out there this week.

Directions

Drive out Hwy 26 to Marmot Rd, L on Marmot, Go across the River then take a R. Go 1/4 mile past the new roadwayside. The 14 road will be on the left with a Road Closed sign on the yellow gate.

It is pretty directional. Climb up the road until you reach the top after about 3 1/2 miles and you'll see ribbons on the left.

These are the Homestead Trails

FYI

We will be riding the Homestead Trails off the 14 Road. Near Sleepy Hollow.
