Sunday Training Ride
This week’s spring training ride will be mellower than last week.
This will be a good weekend to invite new people to ride with us (see my example below)
Date & Time: Sunday 1/24 at 2PM
The Ride: River loop (Steel Bridge to Sellwood Bridge) + out & back on Terwilliger Blvd.
Fitness level: Intermediate
Skill level: Basic (i.e. a road/paved trail ride)
Length: 2 hours
Weather forecast: Rain. So dress accordingly
Meeting location: At my house at 2 (if you know where I live) or at the south end of PSU / South Park Blocks at 2:15.
South Park Blocks meeting location (aka south PSU) is 2000 SW Park Ave, Portland OR 97201
Example who to invite:I have recruited a buddy of mine and his two teenage boys to join me on this ride. All three are in good shape and do some road riding. My goal is to get them into the sport and quickly expose them to the joy & challenge of mountain biking. · Step one - This weekend is will serve as a fitness test to see where they are at. Goal is NOT to kill them off…and have fun.· Step two – In future weekends I will expose them to Forest Park and other dirt trail riding. · Step three - When they catch the “mtn bike bug,” I will ask Cage and Dennis to lead a bike skills training session to speed their skill learning.
Why I am investing time and energy?
1. I want to help be a mentor to new riders getting into the sport.
2. I want to help get “new blood” into NWTA
3. These three individuals are high quality people that I enjoy being around.
Spring provides good opportunities to invite new riders to ride with us. This is one of those events.
