message from WA DNR: Polelander Timber Sale near Tarbell Trailhead

From: WA Dept. of Natural Resources
Subject: Tarbell Timber Sale info update

Just wanted to give you all a heads up about the Polelander Timber Sale, occurring near trail mile marker 22.5 between Rock Creek Campground and Tarbell Trailhead.  They just started road building last week, and have been actively harvesting timber.  There is a log deck currently blocking the trail, which will impede trail traffic, until further notice.  The Contract Administrator estimates that this will only be there for a week or so.  As they are shovel logging, this operation will be relatively gentle on the trail, and the contactors will put it back into order once completed.

This operation will have no impact on the March 6th Tarbell work party. Please pass this along to your user groups, to mitigate safety hazards for the non-motorized recreating public.

Thank you!

Tarbell Logging

The logging on Tarbell is complete.  Board members from the Cold Creek Mountain Bikers have reviewed the site w/ the DNR and the logging company has done as good a job as possible of preserving the trail in a clear cut forest.  Trail impact was minimized and the tread is clearly visible.  There is a work party March 6th to clean this area and a few other section of the trail linking the Rock Creek Campground and the Tarbell Picnic Area trailhead.
