Riding in Maui

I am headed to Maui next month and was curious if anyone has done any riding over there. There doesn't seem to be much info on trails. Thanks for any help.

Maui trails to ride.

My brother in law lives on Maui- I ride whenever I can get there. You'll probably want to hit Makawao (sp?) forest, - see if you can rent a bike and maybe a shuttle ride up to the top of the volcano from the guys at Crater Cycles- they're probably the best moutain bike shop on the island.

I did the (dirt) ride from the top of Haleakala down to about 4,500' elevation. One of the best rides I've ever done.

I rode with knee pads (which I often do) and an XC lid, on a rented Heckler. It was a bit sketch up top with the cinder road-surfing for a couple miles, but otherwise not gonzo, just a bit techy. Of course, it depends on what one considers "techy."

There is some good riding to be had, best bet is to ask at local bike shop(s).  We rented bikes and drove up ourselves, more X-country like than down hill.  On the less traveled side of Haleakala.
