Thank you for the participation at the ODF Non-motorized Volunteer Trail Work Party this past Saturday
Thank you to those that came out for the 1st Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) non-motorized trail work party of the season this past Saturday (http://www.nw-trail.org/node/2060). This work party was led by the Northwest Trail Alliance due to budget and staff reductions for ODF's recreation staff for the Tillamook State Forest. Thank you to Matt Savage, Reese Bowes, Brian List, Fred MacGregor, Ray Bayley, and Wayne Naillon for coming out to volunteer your time to perform maintenance work on the Wilson River Trail for the benefit of all users of this trail. We provided a total of 27 hours of volunteer work for the day, not including driving time.

We removed three trees that had fallen across the trail just east of Wolf Creek Road, repaired the tread from a landslide just west of Wolf Creek Road, cleaned slough from and worked to improve the turning radius of the two switchbacks east of Wolf Creek Road, and conducted a trail survey of needed maintenance between Wolf Creek Road and Cedar Butte Road. There are a few small trees down across the trail between Wolf Creek Road and Cedar Butte Road, and a few landslides that will require some tread repair work. We will accomplish those tasks at a future work party, so please come out then to lend a hand.
In general, the trail is in excellent shape and folks should definitely take advantage of the great weather we've been having to go for a ride on the Wilson River Trail.
On our way back to Portland, Wayne, Fred, and I stopped by to inspect the PUMP bridge on the Storey Burn Trail. This bridge crosses a highway drainage culvert where the Storey Burn Trail passes underneath Highway 6. This portion of the trail looked to be in good condition and the culvert was free of debris. When you ride the Storey Burn Trail, be sure to keep an eye on this culvert and section of trail and let us know if the culvert begins to be blocked by debris. This happens occassionally since the culvert is open topped and it results in water leaving the culvert and causing damage to the trail tread.
ODF Tillamook State Forest regularly scheduled non-motorized volunteer work parties occur on the 3rd Saturday March - October (schedule attached as *.pdf file). The next work party will be the Annual SOLV clean up event. Come out and help clean up all of the garbage that people illegally dump in the Tillamook State Forest.
