Lewis River - Trail report as of 6/12/10

This Lewis River Trail is one of my top ten favorite trails.  It is a “must do” ride every year.  The river views, old growth trees, and the flowing trail are amazing!

The trail is open and clear with only one exception. There was a huge old growth cedar tree that recently fell across the trail (about 3.5 miles in).  You will need to climb over it until a team with a big chainsaw can cut through it.  Due to a month of constant rain and the spring melting, the wet sections are wet and streams & creeks crossing the trail were flowing high.  So expect to get your feet wet.  However the tread was in good shape and only muddy in a couple sections.

For those wanting an extra challenge, do the “double” (Lewis River Trail as an out & back and then add a Falls Creek shuttle).  We did it and we racked up 41 miles, 3500 of ascent and 5400 descent.

The shuttle is easy to set up as you can drop a car at the bottom of Falls Creek as you head over to Lewis River from Stevenson.  Ride Lewis River and then on your way back you can stop at the top of Old Man Pass and start the Fall Creek Trail.  Two great rides for the price of one
