Anti/Pro-MTB signage at Tarbell Trail?

So a buddy and I were riding the Tarbell trail and stopped as we approached some hikers.  Three older women walked up and "informed" us that the trail was closed to mountain bikes and that we shouldn't be there.  We politely replied that it is indeed open for MTBs, and MTBers do a lot of maintenance on it.

Which made me wonder why they though it was closed?  Are there any signs that would confuse them? I don't remember if the kiosk at the top has mountain bike info on it?

I know the Forest Service Motorcycle icon can be confusing.  They likely saw one on the little brown stick signs and though it was a bike.  The details of engine and such are hard to understand.

At least the riding was good!

Definitely open to bikes....

WA DNR land, and yes, the Tarbell is open to cyclists.  It is maintained by a joint effort of dedicated hikers, equestrian and cyclist user groups-- especially the Cold Creek Mountain Bikers.

I'm not sure where they got that impression, but sometimes proper signage disappears/gets shot up/etc.

Here's a link to the DNR map:

Thanks for being polite to other trail users, and glad it was a good ride!
