*UPDATED* Tour de Tillamook (campout option) *UPDATED*

*UPDATE*

I (Ryan K) will be camping at Elk Creek Campground Friday and Saturday night.  I am moving the snacks (gatorade, water, Clif bars) to this location out of convenience.  My ride plans for the weekend are to ride Sikter Lars Friday night upon arrival, do an out and back on the Wilson River Trail on Saturday starting at 9am from the Elk Creek Campground, and riding the Storey Burn and Historic Hiking Trail from Gales Creek Campground starting at 9am on Sunday.  If you plan to ride the Storey Burn and Historic Hiking Trail on Saturday please meet me at Elk Creek Campground to pick up snacks.  The BBQ is going to be very fun and relaxing along the Wilson River Trail, please join us after riding Saturday with food to grill.  Looking forward to riding with you this weekend!

*UPDATE*

Long live long rides!  Come out to the Tillamook and squeeze in as much of the flowing singletrack as you can in a single day.  Refreshments and ride groups to be provided.  Meet at the McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse at 8am to carpool or the Elk Creek Campground Trailhead at 9am to ride.

Ride options include the Wilson River Trail, the Historic Hiking Loop (aka Brown's Camp/Roger's Camp), Sikter Lars, Rheers Camp, and combinations of these trails.  Ride groups will be divided by ability and desire to ensure fun for all!

We have reserved the Smith Homestead for the evening and a no-host BBQ will be occurring from 5-10pm.  Come relax with us after your ride along this beautiful part of the Wilson River.

For those still craving more Tillamook riding action on Sunday and want to stay nearby, camping is available on a first come first served basis at the Jones Creek Campground located near Smith Homestead.  It is recommended to arrive Friday afternoon to reserve your spot for the weekend.

Wow, what a ride!

Thanks goes to the host(s) of the 1st annual PUMP Tour de Tilly

The Wilson River Trail was a blast.  It reminded me of rides like Falls Creek, Luis River, and other great trails.  The WRT was designed for mountain biker by mountain bikers.  The pine needle trail swooped in and out of trees with a “flow” that made you want to giggle. Yes, there were hills, but the fun down-hills were worth the pain of the climb.

The event started with 20 to 30 riders and broke into groups of different skill levels and speed.  I was fortunate to end up with a group of strong riders that road the whole trail as an out and back for a total of 40 miles, 7 hours of ride time, and 5900’ of ascent.  The ride was such that people could ride at their own pace and distance.  A majority of riders choose to do 15 – 25 mile options.

At the end of the adventure, a group of us gathered at Smith Homestead (very cool gathering place) for a BBQ and story telling about the day’s ride.

I would highly recommend this ride as well as recommend that people attend this event next year.

A special thank you goes to Ryan, Wayne, and the rest of the volunteers that have worked hard to build this trail as well as put on this event.

I'm planning to head out Saturday morning for the ride only if anyone would like to ride with me. I plan to stop in Forest Grove on the way home to look at a cx bike I might buy, but if you don't mind the brief detour please join me. Cell: 503-490-0180

camping friday night

Is anyone camping friday night?

camp saturday night

I'd like to camp Saturday night.  It would be great to "trade off" if someone is planning on camping Friday night only.  I plan on heading back to Pdx Sunday late morning or early afternoon depending on hangover/sunday ride/etc.

I have an open seat if anyone else is interested in this schedule.

Camping

If we are riding out of Gales Creek, would that be a better place to camp then Jones Creek? If camping at Jones Creek, then would I need to shuttle to Gales Creek?

Any maps of the trails?

Yes, best to camp at Gales

Yes, best to camp at Gales Creek if the ride starts there.

And If the ride starts at Elk Creek, you probably want to camp there ...

See:

http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/TSF/camping.shtml

It's about a 50 minute drive from Portland to Gales Creek.

There are downloadable PDF maps of the trails located here:

http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/TSF/trails.shtml

Look at Wilson River east and west, and you might as well check Storey Burn and Gales Creek too.

Elk Creek is at the east end of the Wilson River trail, Jones Creek is in about the middle.

Camping

Just trying to avoid the same disconnect we had at the My Hood Wild Rides. Since this is so close to town, there well probably only be a few campers anyway.

Carpooling from PDX

Shanti and I will be driving from town Saturday a.m. to reach the Gales Creek Trailhead by 8 am. If anyone wants to carpool with us from town, let us know. We can take 2-3 additional riders and bikes. FYI, we will be attending the Smith Homestead bbq after so if you're looking to get back to town right after the ride, you shouldn't ride with us. If you want to carpool with us, contact either me (JD) at 503-806-3655 or Shanti at 503-781-8841. We will split the cost of gas by the number of carpoolers. First come, first served!!

First time in Tilly!!!

I look forward to this next adventure!  And it sounds like a blast...

I do most of my riding the Gorge and now I will get a chance to ride the west side.  I hear the trails are dialed in due to all your teams hard work.  It makes me proud to be a PUMP member!
