Two (2) Tillamook State Forest Work Parties this Saturday!

There are two (2) Tillamook State Forest trail work parties to choose from this Saturday. The first is the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) organized work party that will be held on the Step Creek Trail, out of the Reheers Camp Trailhead. Please note that this is both a change from the regular ODF work party schedule and that the previous emails sent out about meeting at the Roger's Camp Trailhead were also errors. Details are forwarded below from ODF on the Step Creek Trail work party. This is a NEW TRAIL CONSTRUCTION work party. This is a great opportunity to lend a hand in creating trail and providing input to ODF on the types of trails that you want to mountain bike on in the Tillamook State Forest. Contact ODF's Roger Warren if you plan to attend so that he can provide adequate number of tools.
The second work party is hosted by Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA), and is scheduled as brushing work along the Sickter Lars Trail. This is in preparation for NWTA's Tour de Tillamook event (http://www.nw-trail.org/2010_Tour_de_Tillamook - Registration deadline is approaching; sign up soon so that you don't miss out on this signature event!). Please come out to lend a hand in tuning up this fun mountain bike specific trail in the Tillamook State Forest. I will be leading this effort. Plan to meet at the Storey Burn Trailhead at the start of the Sickter Lars Trail at 9:30am. I will bring a sign in sheet so that we can document our volunteer time contribution. Please dress appropriately for doing work outside, bring water, and snacks. I will have treats on hand for those that RSVP, as well as electrolyte drink mix to keep everyone well hydrated. For tools, please bring loppers and pruners. We will be focused on trimming back the Bracken Fern. By myself, this work will take several hours, but with 10 or so folks we can hopefully accomplish it in about an hour - leaving the rest of the morning to ride our bikes!

for participating in Saturday's Sickter Lars Trail work day! Together, we put in 18 hours of brush work time on the trail and the parts we worked on look much better!
Additionally, thanks to Wayne Naillon who put in another 3 hours with me yesterday working on the trail.
There is still a bit more work to do before the trail is completely dialed in for the season. Watch for announcements of another work party to polish off the maintenance work.
