Help save the Recreational Trails Program

Got this from my old group and wanted to pass it along.  NWTA just received a Recreational Trails Program grant for the trail building machine and this is an important source of funding for trails across the US.

To All Trail Lovers!

Get Members of Congress to understand why the Recrational Trails Program (RTP) is so important to the health & well-being of our citizens, as well as to the nation’s campaign to attack inactivity & obesity.  Sign on as a member of the Recreational Trails Council of Advisors today!  Trails need your voice, your signature!  Click here to make a difference:  http://atfiles.org/files/doc/RTPCouncilSign-onForm.doc

The responsibility of Advisors is to lend their name to support letters to Congress members, the Administration, and others. The Coalition for Recreational Trails  created the Recreational Trails Council of Advisors to support the continuation & expansion of the Recreational Trails Program.  For more information about this effort, visit American Trails.org, the world's largetst online resource for trails, at the following link: http://www.americantrails.org/support.html

Other Things YOU can do!

  • Ask any organization you know to sign on as a member of the Recreational Trails Council of Advisors. Forward this email.

  • Tell your Congress members! Invite them to an RTP-funded trail ground-breaking, volunteer work day, or to an opening celebration. Tell the media, and send news clips to your Congressional offices. Tell them about your success stories and about the myriad of people of all ages and abilities that
    love and use these trails!
  • Ask other friends of trails to contact their Members of Congress about the importance of the RTP. Encourage them to learn more about RTP by visiting their website at: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/rectrails/.  Encourage them to stay up to date by visiting the American Trails.org website often.
  • We need RTP champions in the Senate and the House -- but critically in the Senate. Please let us know if you have a good connection with a Member of Congress & are willing to make contacts-- especially on these key Committees: Senate Environment & Public Works Committee, Subcommittee on Transportation & Infrastructure, House Transportation & Infrastructure, Subcommittee on Highways & Transit.

I'll bring this up with the

I'll bring this up with the NWTA board as well... just to make sure it's fully on their radar.

NWTA _should_ definitely support the RTP since they've just benefited greatly by it's existence.
