2010 Tour de Tillamook - a huge success!

Nearly 70 participants, ranging in ages from less than 2 to 65 years old, and coming from New York, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon joined Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA) for the 3rd Annual Tour de Tillamook July 30-August 1.  The event is the premier children and family friendly mountain bike skills instructional and camping weekend event for the entire Pacific Northwest.  Camping along the Wilson River, instructional sessions, group trail rides, relaxing, BBQ’ing, adult and children sized demo mountain bikes, on-site bike mechanic, and other activities were all included in this fun-filled, low cost, weekend held near-by Portland in the beautiful Tillamook State Forest.

This year approximately 20 children received mountain bike skills instruction provided by the City of Hillsboro’s Parks and Recreation Department mountain bike instructor, Bud Harris, and NWTA board member/Education and Outreach coordinator and Bicycle Transportation Alliance staff member Joel Holly.  Northwest Trail Alliance member Cage Aaron and board member Dennis Veatch unveiled NWTA’s adult beginner mountain bike skills course to about 10 participants.  NWTA’s mobile skills park was used for both instructional courses, and was on hand for all event participants to hone bicycling skills, including balance, cornering, and obstacle negotiation.  Seven volunteers led group trail rides throughout the weekend on different trails for all skill levels.

The Tour de Tillamook continues to grow in popularity among families and singles alike as an excellent mountain biking event.  NWTA encourages participants from this year and folks that missed out to watch the calendar and announcements closely for next year’s registration information and to do so early!

This year’s event was made possible through the generous donations and support received from sponsors, partnering organizations, and several dedicated volunteers!  NWTA extends a BIG thank you to all those who helped out!  To read more on the event, visit http://www.nw-trail.org/2010_Tour_de_Tillamook.
