Starting from Hilltop Day Use area at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park, riding Hooktender to Hares Canyon to mountain biking zone... and then riding the mountain biking zone loop (singletrack follows North Caddy Whomper Way). Total distance is 4 miles. All natural surface paths/singletrack. 80% singletrack/20% paths.
Casual pace. Think "fun" not fast. "Laughs" not burning lungs. LIGHTS NOT REQUIRED - we are back long before dark.
** Sign-up if you plan to ride. If no sign-ups, then ride most likely gets cancelled. (login to sign-up) **
Opportunity for beginners to ride along (you'll need basic mountain bike handling skills down at least - "ready" position, shifting, braking, "look where you want to go" but happy to give tips) - we can split up so that those who don't want to ride intermediate singletrack can ride the Caddy Whomper Way corridor instead (we'd re-group about 1 mile later to ride as group again). It's hard to get lost since just the one trail! NOBODY GETS LEFT BEHIND!
Takes only about 1 hour to do this ride (depends on how often we stop to talk about trail construction and general park history along the way... or ride options throw in).
LET ME KNOW IF PLANNING TO RIDE by signing up (login to signup)... If questions you can also email joer@nw-trail.org before evening prior to ride) or give me a heads up and call me at 503-877-JOER (5637). No sign-ups or email from people interested, then ride may get cancelled.
Carpool? I've got room for 3 additional people with bikes/gear. I head out thru downtown Hillsboro (North Plains exit on Sunset Hwy), so if anyone wants to met up near North Plains then we could carpool out to the park (about 20 minutes away).
You can get driving directions and more info about the park (including map of the park) here -- http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_255.php Note that on the park brochure page 3 is trail map, and "21N" is North Caddy Whomper Way... "This section is the backbone of the park’s mountain bike trail system. It is a moderate thoroughfare reserved for biking, only." The intermediate level single track trails surf the contours and dive off towards interesting terrain but more or less stay close to that existing Caddy Whomper Way "thoroughfare". (note that continued trail building is happening including a south section of trail which will eventually connect with North to make an even larger mountain biking trail loop with multiple options).

rain or shine / prep for weekend trail work
Will be out there rain or shine.
Will be flagging section of trail for this weekends work party with church camp kids. While I'm flagging, remaining group can continue to ride loop. I'd be done by time you come back by.
