Approximate Monthly Salary: $3,711 - $5,718

The Forest Park Ranger for Portland Parks and Recreation is responsible for assisting in the protection of Forest Park assets and engaging the community in volunteer park stewardship efforts. The Forest Park Ranger will investigate concerns of staff, partners, park users and neighbors and serve as a park ambassador—emphasizing community outreach and education to promote the precepts of park stewardship.

Duties include engaging and educating the public on the proper use of Forest Park trails and natural areas; enforcing park rules (dogs off leash, trail use, camping); assisting with park permits associated with organized activities in the Park and delivering educational programs to park users and staff. Other duties include tracking illegal camp grounds, trails and other non-permitted construction and identifying, mapping and posting illegal camp grounds or other park misuse notices and notifying appropriate authorities and resources to deal with violators and clean-up. This position will be required to interact with park users, staff, volunteers, community associations and neighbors, as required and work some weekends and evenings attending community/neighborhood meetings or events.

The incumbent in this position must possess the ability to become certified as a Private Security Professional in the State of Oregon and be able to work in all weather conditions and rough terrain. Person(s) appointed to this position will be designated as limited duration employee(s) whose appointment shall not exceed six (6) months except for the extension of grants or funding from outside sources.
