And the winners are...

Thanks to our generous sponsors we were able to raffle off a lot of cool prizes at the post ride celebration.

Not only did Discover Bikes help provide shuttle services and a trail side mechanic.  But they also donated $300 worth of prizes.

In addition we also had a long list of sponsors (see blog for list) that supplied multiple cool items.

As an added bonus, Cog Wild donated a certificate for shuttle services in Bend.

The winner of the rafting trip for two was our own NWTA member Susan Sherman.  This trip was donated by Zollar's Rafting in White Salmon, WA ($80 value).

And the BIG prize which was donated by Western Spirit AdventuresA 4-day guided moutain bike trip for two (a $1800 value).  The winner was Ross Cattelan & Rachel Agent from Seattle, WA (and members of Evergreen).  See the photos of their response to discovering that they had the winning ticket.

All the money raised from the raffle goes to the NWTA Trail Fund which is used for building & maintaining the trails that we all love and enjoy.

Lost & Found

When doing a post ride site inspection at the mill parking parking lot I found a large paper bag with dirty bike clothes, a helmet, and a pair of bike shoes.  Looks like someone forgot to load them up.  I have them if you want to claim them.

Event Summary - Wow what a ride!!!

THANKS!!!

The Mt Hood East Side Epic was a success!!!

Thanks to those who helped organize, and especially all the volunteers, you made it happen! Thanks to the sponsors (big shout out to Discover Bikes, Western Spirit, and Adventure Maps) for all the help, great schwag and raffle prizes. Thanks also to the riders, without you, there would not have been an East Side Epic.

We had 60 riders, 50 miles, 5600' of climbing and 8600' of descending, 80% singletrack, amazing weather, and smiles all around!!! We had riders from as far as Seattle and Eugene and many people rode trails they had never been on. We didn't have any notable injuries, nor did we lose anyone. Every time I stopped and talked with other riders they were always smiling and commented on what a great time they were having. Below is a link to attest to the great day, thanks to all the photographers, Jarred, Kierstan, Sarah, Robert, Charlie, et al.

Volunteers needed for the Mt Hood Epic

Looking for volunteers

As you might agree, putting on a large bike event that covers 50+ miles, 75 people, celebration party, and raffle fund raiser is a lot of work.  So Jarred and I are asking for volunteers for the day of the event.  In most cases it requires a low amount of commitment and can be fun.

Ride leaders & sweeps:  To add to the challenge of the event we have decided not to flag the route, thus making map reading skills necessary for all participants.  To help insure that people don't get lost we will have ride leaders and sweeps spread out through the group(s).  These volunteers will help people navigate the trails.  Currently we have several people offering to help navigate, but we could use more.  Do you know the trails?  Are you interested in guiding?  Note: you do not need to be in front of the pack to help.  We need volunteers at all ability levels.  This volunteer position provides the opportunity to participate in the full event.

Shuttle drivers / aid station / trail assistance:  We have a few random positions that we need help with.  These duties involve activities with limited time commitments and allows the volunteer to ride a sections of the route and to attend the post ride celebration.  This is a great way for people who want to be part of the fun and but don't want to ride the full 50+ miles.  Interested?

People with medical training: It is our hope that no one gets hurt during the event.  But as a precaution it would be good to know who in our group has medical skills.

Other volunteer duties: Parking cars (i.e. directing), greeter to help meet people as they arrive,  finish line/sign out

Email me if you can help.  tdodd2000(at)comcast.net
