That was great fun, as
That was great fun, as usual. Especially exciting riding that top part of Knebal "backwards" - it's quite a different trail!

YeeHaw...
Wild Ride 08 is in the books (for me anyway). I saw an awful lot of
dirty faces sporting big grins and that can only mean fun was had.
I led four riders on a 16 mile ride which started at EightMile CG and
figure 8'ed 8 Mile, Bottle Prarie and Knebal.

few keepers in there.

yahoo!
I'd like to do either Surveyor's Ridge or the Combined Loop, is anyone else doing that?
Also does anyone want to carpool from Portland, leaving early Sat. morning and coming back Sat. afternoon/evening?

Friday through Sunday
We're rolling out Friday and will try to get a spot @8mile. Failing that, we'll try kneibel. We = Me (Charlie) & my wife (Amy) plus 2 kids (age 3 & 5). Our plan is to send Amy out for the Saturday Combined Knebal Springs & 8-Mile Creek Loops ride and I'll do something Sunday. If anyone's around, I'd be all over 15 mile trail. I roll on a SS (34x18) while Amy has gears. Unfortunately, with us+kids+gear, the car is full.
See you out there & we look forward to meeting everyone.

>> Is anybody S/S on Sunday? I'm bringing my 32/18 S/S 29er
>I'd be all over 15 mile trail. I roll on a SS (34x18)
I'll be there Saturday with my SS (a 34x20 26'er). Knebal, Bottle Prarie, 8-Mile and lower part of 450 trail over to 15 Mile Camp are all great SS rides. Although I have done them all in the past running a 34x18 ... nope, I'm keeping the 20.
I wouldn't want to climb the Upper part of 450 on a SS and I think the 15 Mile/Cedar loop are (for me) just not worth it no matter what gear or gears.
See ya tomorrow!

Spots at Eightmile
We should have spots at eightmile. One person is heading out in the morning. With young kids you may want to grab your own. We are typically around the campfire until midnight.
15 mile on a single speed!! That climb is rough on a geared bike.
Weather Alert for Saturday
Bring extra extra water for your Sat. ride. It's going to be in the 90s. I'll bring a few more gallons.

Singlespeeding on Sunday/carpool
Is anybody S/S on Sunday? I'm bringing my 32/18 S/S 29er to ride on Sun. Any good trails for doing that? I can slowly chug up Springville in Forest Park if thats any good indication. If anybody wants to give a ride to 1 rider/2bikes on Fri., I'll take it otherwise I'll drive and can pick up one more person after I finish my work in Troutdale which would be about 4pm.

48+ mile loop option - Any takers?
I am still interested in the 48+ mile loop option described on the posting. So far I have only heard from Stan who is also up for it. Any takers? Trying to get a gameplan together in advance for Saturday morning....

Carpol
For those of you who live in Portland and want to carpool let me know. I live on the way to hood river (Gresham) and we could easily meet somewhere right off of I-84 in the troutdale area. I have a bike rack for two on my car so I would be more then happy to give someone a ride or chip in some money for gas if I ride with someone else. Let me know.

Night ride?
If I make it out tomorrow night (as is the current plan) I'll likely bring my HID and try to get in a few miles after dark. Anyone else up for some excitement? I've never ridden any of the trails and so will be happy to "lead" such a misbegoten excursion. There's probably even a chance I won't get horribly lost and wind up off-trail on some back country roads asking rowdy, vodka drunk horse campers for directions, as happened at Lake Waldo two years ago. All turned out well, as said campers got me pointed in the right direction and shared some of their bounty as well. Always good times that night riding.
carpool
Is anyone interested in carpooling Saturday morning from Portland?
mt hood ride
Yes I'd like to carpool from Portland on Saturday morning. I live in NE, Hollywood area and would want to leave on the early side - maybe 7-8ish - and get back by Saturday evening. Does this work for you?
-Colin
CARPOOL:
Meet at Gateway Transit Center, about 8am sharp, or so. We'll figure it out from there.

ride #3 meet spot?
9am at the dog river / surveyors trail head? Or all you all riding from 8 mile campground at 9am to the trailhead? Or is this ride going to start from somewhere else?
All Rides Meet at Knebal Springs Campground
All the rides will be starting from the Knebal springs campground. There will be sign in and sign out sheets there so we do not lose anyone.

Trail report/update
I am happy to report that last weekend I road from Eight Mile, through Bottle Prairie & Knebel Springs, and finished with the Dog River downhill. The trails were in great shape and a lot of fun. These are “must do” rides. After riding the listed trails we also road Trail 450 as an out and back from Eight Mile trail head but found that the upper sections still have snow. Give it a couple more warm weeks and the snow will be gone. A “thank you” goes out to all the people who volunteered to get these trails in great shape. And a special “thank you” goes to Jim Thornton our friend and resident Mt Hood Forest Representative who works hard to maintain and to keep these trails open. See you on the trails. Ted D
It's going to be beautiful up there...
Here are just some of the flowers that are blooming up there right now:
balsamroot
bunchberry
cascade lilies (the big easter-lily-lookin' things)
columbine (just a few)
deerbrush
false lily-of-the-valley
larkspur
lupine
paintbrush
skyrocket
spotted coral root (orchids!)
vetch
roses
We should catch the patch of mountain bluebell near the top of Surveyor's too. :)
gabrielle (doin' the Interpretive Ride ;) )
Why, yes, honey, I do love this bike more than you."
I'll be there!
I haven't done too many PUMP rides, but this sounds like a blast. I plan on camping out Friday night and riding Surveyor's Ridge. I've never done this ride before...it will likely take me more towards the 6 hours then 4. :)
Eightmile is the place to camp
The consensus seems to be eightmile campground. I will be there on Friday early evening.

Campout
Kelley
We camp out at 8mile C. at the last Wild ride. It's a great site with shade. A favorite spot for the fishermen because of the trouts in season at the creek after talking with some of them. The singletrack ride up to Knebal is very sweet, like Ryan T. said. I also plan to campout on Fri. and Sat. nights.Hopefully it's not filled with fishermen. Any carpoolers? If the temp. is not too much I'll do Option 4 too.
camp plans
So is everyone planning to drive out Saturday & just camp the one night? Is anyone planning on heading out Friday evening?
Option #4
I'm interested in option #4 (the "epic ride"). Any takers?

Overnight
My wife and I were thinking about camping. It looks like Eightmile Crossing is the best place to camp. I have never been there so don't know. Would like some feedback
I'd say eightmile is a nicer
I'd say eightmile is a nicer campground than Knebal Springs. It has a nice stream and Knebal is also a horse camp. I don't remember fifteenmile very well.
sheets and snacks
This is my introduction to PUMP, and I'm looking forward to #3. I'll bring the sing in/out emergency sheets, unless there is some kind of PUMP specific sheet that you are referring to.
My wife makes killer home made snacks, and will be glad to contribute.
Any idea how many people are going to this?
Bob
Overnight
Anyone up for camping out?
not quite leading, but...
I'll ride sweep for 1, 2, or 3.

Event Helpers
Ok, who is helping ?
Seems we don't have the services of past event organizer (Bryan P.) who did such a great job on single handedly planning everything from Routes to Maps to bringing and stashing treats at resupply points (heck I think he even rode for people).
I'll be there with 15 gallons of Water, some tools, first aid kit, misc bike parts and ready to lead a ride. I'll bring my QuickShade PopUp and a cooler with ice.
We need...
_ Ride Leaders (begineer to gonzo)
_ Maps
_ Treats
_ Drinks (Water, Juices, Gatoraid. Pop...)
_ PUMP Banner, stickers, brouchers, membership...
_ Ride Sign Out/In Emergency contact Info sheets
_ Camp Chairs
