Helens Fest II - 26 thru 28 August 2011

Helens Fest II is fast approaching.  If you have any questions about the event please post them here and we'll get your questions answered!

Helens Fest is a three day weekend of advocacy and stewardship of a very unique riding area.  There is nothing like it anywhere in the 48 contiguous states.  The event is being held at the Marble Mountain Snow Park on Forest Road 83 in the Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument, Gifford Pinchot National Forest in south-west Washington.  We operate under a special use permit issued by the Monument Manager.

Sandy Ridge Trail Care 3/12

This coming Saturday, March 12th, I'm planning to get dirty with some trail work followed by some riding at Sandy Ridge. I do not currently have a car, so if you are also going out there, and would like company and gas money, let me know! You can reach me at juliek@nw-trail.org

Thanks!

Julie

Hey show the BTA that we think being able to ride our bikes to the trails is an important part of a bike transportation network and vote for Erik, Frank, and Tom.

Decision on Syncline Area

I receive this notice last week.  A decision has been handed down regarding the management of what most of us refer to as the Syncline area.  We haven't really had a chance to fully digest this info yet, and will be passing along more info as it becomes available.  It does appear that some trails which cross private land will be closed.  As always, please be respectful of private property, and other trail users.

Letters to Oregonian Editor

Nick Fish and Parks will announce their latest decision on Forest Park today or tomorrow.  Please consider submitting a short letter to the editor to the Oregonian about their decision when it is announced.  A bunch of opponents are likely to write in, and it would be good to have cyclists heard.

This page has their guidelines and lists their e-mail submission address (letters@news.oregonian.com):

Help save the Recreational Trails Program

Got this from my old group and wanted to pass it along.  NWTA just received a Recreational Trails Program grant for the trail building machine and this is an important source of funding for trails across the US.

Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland against Forest Park access

From this article on Oregonlive.com http://www.oregonlive.com/opinion/index.ssf/2010/06/in_forest_park_bikin...

I decided to check and see if any of my doctors are part of the Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland. Luckily, none are but if I had found a name on the list I'd have called, cancelled appointments and changed doctors.
