Fire in the Western Yacolt Burn area.

Hi Everyone,

If you haven't heard already, there is a fire burning in the Western

Yacolt Burn area.  It evidently started on Saturday and is located

primarily on private (Fibre) timberlands at this time off of the L-1500

in section 35.  The size is estimated at 60 acres, although there has

been some spotting on DNR land.  For those of you familiar with that

area, it is north of the L-1500 near the Larch Repeater site, north of

the Jones Creek Trail system loops and south of the Tarbell trail

system.

We are asking folks to spread the word that any motorized recreation use

has to be confined to the designated Jones Creek trail system loops

only, and we are asking that everyone avoid using the southeastern

portion of the Tarbell trail system until further notice.

Thanks.

The Portland Fire Department is doing a controlled burn on Powell Butte today. The top of the butte is closed but the trails on the west end of the park in the trees are open. They will also be burning on Monday Aug. 24th. According to the firefighter I spoke to all the trails will be open on Tuesday.
