Portland

Ride Sunday morning?

Looking for riding partner(s) tomorrow late morning to hit trails near Portland, up to three hours on the bike, fairly fast pace, technical single track - Sandy Ridge, Browns Camp area, or something else within an hour of Portland. I have a Eurovan and can drive, I live in NoPo. Anyone interested? Email me: wheelrhythm [at] gmail [dot] com

Possibility of new trails downton PDX near Iowa St.???

A pretty far-fetched idea, but I thought I would bring it up in case anyone knows anything about this area:

If you've driven on I-5 just south of downtown Portland over the last couple of weeks, you may have noticed a major tree-trimming project on the west side of I-5 (between I-5 and SW Barbur), between the Corbett and Terwiliger exits. This is part of an upcoming construction project on I-5. While the area is relatively steep (in the east-west direction), as a result of the tree-cutting, you can now see a a relatively level dirt road (maintainance road) going parallel to I-5 (north-south) and the area looks like it would have room for a trail or two or three. Obviously not a huge area, but probably bigger than Gateway Green. Also, there are no Forest-park hippies walking their dogs here, and ODOT will have to do a lot of work (replanting) here anyway. A perfect opportunity to add a few new trails practically down-town, if you ask me. See http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION1/iowaviaduct/  Does anybody know anything about this area or whether this is something that would be worth pursuing?

Urban Assault Ride wheels in to Portland

Date:
Sun, 05/23/2010 - 7:30am - 3:30pm

New Belgium Brewing's Urban Assault Ride is wheeling in to Portland again on May 23, 2010.  As in years past this will prove to be about as much fun as can be had on two wheels!  To paraphrase their website, UAR loves coming to PDX because we just ooze two-wheeled culture...not to mention beer, music, and funky shops. So if you like two wheels, beer, a funky good time get ready!

Northwest Trail Alliance is a beneficiary of the Urban Assault Ride this year, but we need to provide some volunteers to staff the course!  And that's where you come in!  We need 30 warm bodies to staff the course, volunteers will receive free swag, beer, and food for your labor!  Volunteers will also need to attend a meeting the Thursday before the event.  Twelve people signed up during our February meeting, but we need 18 more!  How about you?!

New By-Laws up for vote Nov. 24 General Membership meeting

Recently, the Board of Directors attended a Board retreat where we discussed the future and development of the Northwest Trail Alliance. In light of our recent progress, becoming a chapter of IMBA, and expanding our scope we have taken a detailed look at our by-laws.  It is our belief these new by-laws will allow our organization to grow and prosper into the future. We are asking our membership to approve these by-laws at our Nov. 24 general membership meeting.

Powell Butte Park trails

Ever wonder how many miles of singletrack are available to mountain bikers in Portland?  You've probably heard that there were about 6 miles of singletrack trail available to us in Portland.   We know that there is about a quarter of a mile in Forest Park and that some people consider the paths on Mount Tabor as singletrack, but personally I find that a bit of a stretch.  Therefore the majority of singletrack in Portland has to be at Powell Butte.  I went out there recently to get an idea, bringing my etrex Vista HCx GPS unit to help in that endeavor.
