Post Canyon - late June ride report

Just a quick update on Post Canyon, I had heard it was already getting dusty after a few weeks of dry weather so I made plans to ride there after work yesterday.  After about an hour on the trail it actually rained a fair amount for about 30 minutes which made for some very nice tacky trail.  Even better news for those planning to ride with Ted on Saturday, after eating dinner in Hood River it was raining again on my way out of town.  

Post Canyon Trail Closure

CAMBA / NWTA Folks: Hood River County Forestry wants us to know about this closure in the forest due to logging operations. Details below, but basically you can't ride up 8 Track past The Boot. I'm sure they'll let us know when it reopens. If you've ever seen a log or boulder rolling down a hill you know why we should take this closure seriously and stay away until we get the "all clear" from Henry (the land manager).  --Arthur, CAMBA

20101030 Post Canyon Work Party, Trail Updates

Lots of good stuff going on in Hood River; here's a digest of what's happening lately...

Work party:

Large turnout for the work party.  Work done in the Family Area included massive rework of the pumptrack "Rhythm, and some work on Middle School.  A separate group went to Lower GP and cleaned up tread below the step up. 

Lots of momentum for this build season at Post Canyon, so if you haven't thrown dirt there in the past and ride there, there seems to be more opportunities than ever to volunteer.

Trail project updates:

-New trail, "Sexy Beast" was cut in recently that takes you from way up by Kingsley Reservoir to the 2 Chairs.  Full pavement to the drop up top if you're shuttling.

March 20/21 (2010) Trail Work Party Opportunities: Wilson River, Post Canyon & Sandy Ridge

It's that time of year-- only this year we've been riding the trails
pretty much all winter without snow. Northwest Trail Alliance, Columbia Area Mountain Bike Advocates (CAMBA) and Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) all are
hosting work parties this weekend.

How about giving back to the trails this weekend?

Saturday (3/20) work parties:

-Northwest Trail Alliance: Sandy Ridge- cutting in some new
trail, maintenance on Hide & Seek

DAy #2 - finish Spaghetti Factory Trail

Sunday 3/21

Time and place

~ 8:45 AM – meet at lower Post Canyon Rd. Staging area (where pavement turns to dirt)

~ 9:00 AM – leave staging area for work area up Post Canyon Rd. just past Post Flats Staging area.

~ 12-noon – end of work party (unless you want to stay and continue to work)

 What to Bring: water, work gloves, safety glasses, Polaski’s, McLeod’s, rake, hand saw. Goal:   Cut in trail in one side-hill section

            Rake/clear trail route in middle switchback section

            Remove/pull few stumps in trail tread area

            Place logs on a few corners

A BIG THANKS to all the volunteers that helped add more single track on Trail 140 last Sunday! We now have more new single track from the Post Flats Staging Area. We still have a small section of new trail to add to complete Trail 140 to the Binns Hill Staging Area. Please try to make the Work Party/Trail Ride this Sunday!
