Powell Butte

Rides of Winter: Coffee->Ride->Beer ride

Date:
Sat, 01/08/2011 - 9:00am - 12:23pm

This is a beginner/intermediate/gonzo friendly XC ride.  We will be meeting at Starbucks in Sellwood at SE 13th and Tacoma at 9am for some coffee and bike-talk.  We will then head out the Springwater Corridor to Powell Butte for a lap or two, making sure to hit every piece of dirt in between!  We will then head back to Sellwood on the Springwater for a bite and a beverage.  While this is not a technical ride, plan on riding for 2.5 to 3 hours.  No one will be dropped.  Open to anyone, rain or shine.  Please email me if you have any questions:   Brian@nw-trail.org

Powell Butte Trail Map proposal

The Trail Proposal Open house was last Tuesday.

<EDIT> I realized that PB folks had the existing trails already shaded on the map online.  Helped me to see what the proposed rerouted trails are in comparison to the current ones.  Here's the link:

I for one am pretty pleased.  A lot of opportunity for correcting some problematic trails and some new additional connectors for more loop options.  We will need to continue to voice our interest for shared use trails, and continue to make a presence.

Thanks to all for your help.

Powell Butte Project Advisory Committee: URGENT! Please fill out the Design Process Comment Form!!

The PAC is progressing towards a close and making a recommendation as to which trail and park improvement plan will be the preferred solution. Last night's meeting was the last chance for in-person public input into the process. The only way now for the public to provide input is to fill out the online comment form: http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/index.cfm?c=51455&

The comment form will be open until the end of the year. It is vital that we make our voices heard and show support for increased, sustainable trails on Powell Butte and that increased trail access does not have to come at the determinant of wildlife and habitat. The form allows for detailed comments on each trail design concept; please be as detailed as possible in your answers (like referencing the trail design principles, access and trail experience, and natural resource protection).  The concepts range from maintaining/improving existing trails to creating many new trails and routes.

Thanks for taking the time to help shape the future of Powell Butte! Please fill out the form!

Powell Butte Project Advisory Committee Open House Update-Submit Comments By Nov. 27th

I wanted to thank everyone who came out to the Open House on Thursday. Mountain bikers had a very good turn out and were able to make our voices heard! The case for more mult-use trails was made and supported by nearly all user groups. At the Open House, attendees had a chance to provide feedback to the design team by filling out the public comment form. If you have not filled out the form please do so now! The City is giving the public until Friday, November 27th to submit comments.

Powell Butte Wet Weather Message!

Do you bike, hike, or ride horses on Powell Butte?

This rainy season you will have the opportunity to participate in a pilot project to test the theory that people can have more trail access and take better care of the trails by staying off the trails when they are muddy.

Powell Butte Project Advisory Committee

A Project Advisory Committee has been formed to make recommendations for key park improvements and updates to the Powell Butte Trail Master Plan. The committee is tasked with a big job and has a very short timeline. We are scheduled to have our recommendations refined and completed by mid-December. I will be doing my best to advocate for the needs of mountain bikers. All of the meetings are public and we need you there!

If anyone is up Powell Butte Ride early a.m. tomorrow drop a line

Controlled Burns- Aug 17th and Aug 24th.

The Portland Fire Department is doing a controlled burn on Powell Butte today. The top of the butte is closed but the trails on the west end of the park in the trees are open. They will also be burning on Monday Aug. 24th. According to the firefighter I spoke to all the trails will be open on Tuesday.
