NWTA First Aid/CPR Training

NWTA is sponsoring a first aid/CPR class for both members and non-members.

March 11th, 10AM-2PM, Location TBD

Dan Werle, NWTA member and first aid trainer, will be instructing an Adult CPR and first aid class.  This is a great opportunity to get trained/refreshed on the basics of first aid/CPR.  (Note: this is for Adult CPR and first aid; will not include AED or child/infant CPR.)

Discount for NWTA members: $25.00!  Non-members $45.00.  Consider signing up as a member to get the discount, and support local trails in the process.

2012 RTP grant application status

NWTA grant app for Recreation Trails Program funding dropped in mail today (the due date). $69K project - asking for $55K funding (the remainder comes from you, the members - thanks for paying your dues! - and mix of community matching grants/donations...)

What's the project for exactly? NWTA intends to purchase additional supporting equipment for our Trail Development Partnership Program (http://nw-trail.org/TDPP) which launched in 2011. During the limited pilot, got feedback on some things and identified additional equipment we need.

FOUND! Stolen NWTA Xtera trailer and ST240 machine...

Anonymous Crime Stoppers Tip Leads to Recovery of Stolen Trailer, $80,000 Trail Construction Machine; Investigation Continuing

"Oregon State Police (OSP), with the help of an anonymous tip reported to the Crime Stoppers program, recovered a trail construction machine and trailer stolen in late November from L.L. "Stub" Stewart State Park in northwest Washington County. The investigation is continuing and a suspect has been identified but not charged.

According to OSP Detective Chris Schinnerer, on Decembeer 30, 2011 OSP troopers went to a Forest Grove-area property following up on an anonymous tip that equipment similar to the stolen "Northwest Trail Alliance" trail construction machine and trailer was at the property. Detectives and troopers contacted the property owner and received his consent to search the area, subsequently finding the trail construcion machine concealed in a heavily forested area. The stolen trailer was also found and recovered.

Do you love trails?  The 4th Annual Trail Skills College in Cascade Locks needs volunteers who offer excellent organizing and event planning skills. 

 

The College aims to cultivate volunteers’ essential skills in trail construction, design, and maintenance.

Instructors include professionals and volunteer leaders in the field. We offer multiple levels and types of

trail work skills, along with classes on first aid, saw certification, and crew leadership. We also offer

electives on related topics. Classes run all day Friday through Sunday with hands-on training on the

Group Ride – a simple & fun way to contribute to the group

 

The following are helpful hints to ensure the success of your next group ride.

1)   Post your ride info on the NWTA Calendar

Include as much info as possible so that people know what to expect.  Basics include:  Who, what, where, when, how... 

Include estimates (if you have them) for skill level, distance, time, miles, pace, description of typical rider you want (beginner, intermediate, advanced, gonzo).  For a description of these terms see http://nw-trail.org/forum/rides-events/general/2758

Rider Skill Levels - Description of terms

 

Rider/ride level descriptions for a basis of understanding, but subject to personal Interpretation.

Beginner:

Beginner riders are just that, they are beginning to learning to become comfortable with their bikes and various trail conditions.  Beginners tend not to like technical features, steep climbs, or steep descents.  They prefer smooth and wide open trails.
