Hello all, and greetings from Finland – land of thousands of lakes in Northern Europe. I work for Nokia and recently got a chance to spend a weekend in Seattle before starting some work together with Microsoft. Some 14 years ago I was hiking in the Mt St Helens area and thought It would be nice to go and explore the area on mountain bike. After some Googling around I found PUMP site and got in touch with David Anderson. Thanks David for excellent hints on selecting the trails to study.
The Loowit Trail on the Plains of Abraham, Mount St Helens needs our help! We will be working to repair water damage and sections of washed out trail.
Car poolers should meet at Gateway Park and Ride and leave there by 8:00A. We will then meet up at the Cougar Rest Area about 9:00A. Anyone planning on attending should RSVP so we can plan on the proper number of tools to bring with us. Bring a lunch and dress according to the weather forecast.

We are going to attempt a late season ride on the Ape Canyon Trail. Riding up there on the last day of November will be quite a feat! Has it ever been ridden so late?! Expect some chilly temperatures. Weather report calls for clear skies though. There will most likely be some snow on the Plains of Abraham, but the opportunity to photograph that area this late in the season is compelling! IF conditions are not conducive to riding up there we will ride Siouxon Creek instead.
Have you ever wanted to do the Ape Canyon and Smith Creek loop trails? Well, here's your chance! We'll be leaving from the Marble Mountain Snow Park, north-east of Cougar, WA at 8:00A. The Ape Canyon trail is in excellent condition this year. Even though the upper Smith Creek trail is currently in pretty rough condition, there are several work parties scheduled before Labor Day weekend which should clear out most of the brush in time for this ride.
