Smith Creek trail ride and work party, Mount St Helens

What better way to celebrate Labor Day weekend than volunteering some time to do some needed trail work?  The Forest Service would like us to concentrate our work efforts on the Smith Creek Trail, Mount St Helens.  This work party is being spearheaded by Bike Gallery employees, James Ceccorulli and David Anderson.

Black Rock Build Day (BRMBA)

From our friends at Black Rock Mountain Bike Association:

THIS Saturday May 1st is the last organized build
day for the 2009/2010 BRMBA Build Season, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM (or a
little longer if you choose and if the trail managers are staying). 
Meet at Basic Training for sign in and instructions.

We need your help!  This build day will have a primary focus of
maintenance and some finishing up of rebuilds on a couple of structures
that needed to be replaced.

If you have tools please bring them (flat or spade shovels, rake,
hammer or such)!

If you are only planning to work the gate will be open and you can
drive up to Basic Training, if you are planning on riding afterward
please ride up and we will get you to where you can help!  Please
remember to drive slowly through the camp!

If you would like a lunch please sign up for one at Basic Training;
please bring cash as lunches are usually $5-6 dollars from A&N Home
Town Grocery.

Tillamook State Forest SOLV Clean-up (ODF)

TILLAMOOK STATE FOREST

Project:    SOLV Day Cleanup

Project Date:     April 17th, 2010

Meeting Time:    Registration Begins at 8:15 AM / Clean-up from 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM

Meeting Location:    Summit of Highway 6 at the ODOT Sand shed (Milepost 33)

Project Location:    The cleanup sites are located in the Browns Camp, Rogers Camp, Drift Creek, Reehers Camp area, and along the Wilson River Highway corridor.

Project Description:    Clean up of tire dumps; clean up of garbage at dispersed camping areas, illegal dumpsites and areas along forest roads and trails; and removal of abandoned vehicles.  Work may require walking and working on steep terrain.  ODF group leaders will be provided to volunteers to clean-up areas.

Appropriate clothing for the work includes work boots or sturdy shoes, long pants and gloves.  It usually rains for this event so prepare for wet weather.  Volunteers should also bring lunch and water.

March 20/21 (2010) Trail Work Party Opportunities: Wilson River, Post Canyon & Sandy Ridge

It's that time of year-- only this year we've been riding the trails
pretty much all winter without snow. Northwest Trail Alliance, Columbia Area Mountain Bike Advocates (CAMBA) and Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) all are
hosting work parties this weekend.

How about giving back to the trails this weekend?

Saturday (3/20) work parties:

-Northwest Trail Alliance: Sandy Ridge- cutting in some new
trail, maintenance on Hide & Seek

Wilson River Work Party (ODF)

The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), our partner in the Tillamook State Forest, is hosting a series of volunteer work parties for 2010. 

These work parties focus on building new trails for hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers.  Work parties are the 3rd Saturday of each month except for September (the September work party is the 2nd Saturday).

The March 20th, May 15th, July 17th and September 11th work parties focus on the Wilson River Trail Restoration.

Meeting Time: Sign-In at 9:30 AM / Trail Construciton Starts at 10:00 AM

Meeting Location: Tillamook Forest Center Parking Lot (West End)

Driving Directions from Portland:

  • Hwy 26 westbound towards the coast
  • Take exit 53 onto Hwy 6 (Marked "Hwy 6 / Tillamook / Ocean Beaches)
  • The Tillamook Forest Center is just west of the turn-off to Jones Creek Campground

~ 8:45 AM – meet at lower Post Canyon Rd. Staging area (where pavement turns to dirt)

~ 9:00 AM – leave staging area for work area up Post Canyon Rd. just past Post Flats Staging area.

~ 12-noon – end of work party (unless you want to stay and continue to work)

 What to Bring: water, work gloves, safety glasses, Polaski’s, McLeod’s, rake, hand saw. Goal:   Cut in trail in one side-hill section

            Rake/clear trail route in middle switchback section

            Remove/pull few stumps in trail tread area

            Place logs on a few corners

We've added another Trail Work Party for the Sandy Ridge Trail System!

In addition to our Trail Work Party/Discovery Ride as part of the Portland Trail Fest on April 24th, we've added a Trail Work Party on Saturday, March 20th.  Please join us, along with our trail partners, the Salem District Bureau of Land Management and the International Mountain Biking Association, for 3 hours to help cut new trail and perform maintenance work on one of the newest trail systems in our area-- then ride the completed section of trail afterwards.

We welcome you to attend even if you haven't ever worked at a Trail Work
Party-- make this your first one if you've never been to one!
