Rocky Point Scappoose - What are the current trail conditions?

Thinking of trekking out to Scappoose but wanted to find out if the riding there is good?  Has anyone been lately and how are the trail conditions?

Scappoose/Rocky Point: Trailbuilding, night riding-- both restricted activities on these trails

The Scappoose/Rocky Point trails are great  trails to ride.  As with any trail system, there are rules in place that govern the usage and create the framework for the relationship between the land manager (in this case Longview Timber) and mountain bikers (NWTA members and the general mtb public).  Please read the following note from Scappoose Trail Steward Andy Jansky regarding a couple of important points regarding recreational use of the trails off Rocky Point Rd.  Continued access to these trails involves certain responsibilities on the part of us, as recreational users of this private land, and your cooperation is both needed and appreciated.

Thanks,

Scappoose: Gates | Hunting season

Basically, two quick reminders:

-Don't park in front of or block access to the gates that border the Scappoose trails.  Longview Timberlands (land manager) needs unobstructed access to the gates at all times.

-It's hunting season, so if you are in the woods, use caution and wear bright clothing to clearly establish your presence as non-tag worthy.

Enjoy the trails!  It's good dirt time of year!

Scappoose OPEN; fire closure lifted 9/21/2011

Yesterday, 9/21/2011, Longview officially lifted the closure for Scappoose.

Thanks for everyone's patience during the closure.

The original herbicide application window was 9/6-10/7/2011 for the clearcut from last fall, so there could still be some localized closures on the south side until 10/7.  Keep your eyes open and please respect any posted closures on this private land.

Thanks!

Scappoose: FIRE CLOSURE (and Herbicide spraying) as of 9/6/2011 (OPEN as of 9/21/2011)

Attention Scapppoose riders--

As of nightfall on 9/6/2011, ALL of Scappoose is CLOSED to all use due to fire danger.  (This reflects other closures due to fire danger, as in the case of recent OHV trail closures in the Tillamook State Forest.)  This will stay in effect until otherwise noted.  This closure affects all trails, all parcels of Longview Timberlands property off Rocky Point Road.

Rocky Point clean up day: HUGE success! (click for full story)

A Big Thank You to over 30 people who volunteered their time and some cash to pick up litter and debris on Rocky Point Road near Scappoose.  We filled the trailer with 6 cubic yards of tires, mattresses wire and other junk and debris.  (No lb total yet as it is still in the trailer).   I know it's easy and fun to give navigation directions such as 'turn right at the mattress, then left at the big red tire', but removal is to everyone's benefit.

Scappoose update 2011/07/18: Peacock alert (not a joke...)

From the land of bizarre trail reports...

To all who ride at Scappoose, be aware that we've been notified of a pair of peacocks (not to be confused with A Flock of Seagulls) that have been spotted around the first blue gate on Rocky Point Rd.

They appear to be birds that were released at the property and were reported to be agressive when approached.  Law enforcement has notified animal control.

Please be aware of this potential hazard and don't try to pet them.

Thanks!

Scappose Trail Cleanup and Clearing

Date:
Wed, 07/27/2011 - 5:00pm - 9:00pm

Like to ride at Scappoose? Don't be a question mark and get in this photo.

We need your help to show the land owner we are serious about moving our relationship forward.  We are going to have a trail event to focus on collecting trash and debris left by others and clear the line impacted by the logging.

The first hour will focus exclusively on picking up trash and filling as many bags as we can.  The second hour we will clear the existing trail line that is covered by sticks and limbs.  The last hour before dark a white van may run a few shuttles as reward.

Scappoose update 7/6/2011: South side open (more inside)

Thanks everyone for your patience while the south side trails @ Scappoose (aka Rocky Point Road) have been closed!  As noted earlier, this is an actively logged timberland, and thus, we will encounter periodic closures.

The south side is now OPEN!  At the time of this posting, all the closure signs have been removed and the south side is open.  Most of the trails are unaffected by the clearcut, with the exception of one which we're working w/ the land manager to re-open.
