Stub Mountain Bike Area - south section to open by summer '11!

The N. Caddy Whomper area opened to public in August 2010, and we're now nearing another milestone with the south section which has been under construction for couple of build seasons...

NWTA is on target for open south section of trail in Stub mountain bike area by summer 2011.   We need your help on 3/20/2011 to complete a link section to tie Williams Creek bridge landing with the existing single track which has been built over couple of seasons (ready to ride but needs signage before open to public).

For further info and current project map (with some pics that offer tiny glimpse of what's on the ground so far)... Read the current update on the "Stub Mountain Bike Area 2010/2011 scheduled volunteer trail build days" thread...

SURVEY: Stub Stewart State Park "Stub Mountain Bike Area" trails...

OPRD logoAs part of public process for developing trails, Oregon Parks & Recreation Department has opened up a survey to capture user feedback about the Stub Stewart Trails.  This has specifically been opened up to get input about Stub Mountain Bike Area trails which have been constructed by volunteer labor over the past several years.  At least 90 responses are needed to meet requirements for feedback about this new trail.

Bring snack, water, and work gloves.  Bike is optional but highly recommended to ride 1 mile out to project location - and park doesn't like more than couple vehicles driving down trail so may not have room for all in a vehicle (this one will be down Banks-Vernonia trail from Welcome Center then hiking for .5 miles to project area).  We can transport your hiking shoes along with tools to spot where you'll be able to change into boots and stash bikes off in the woods near where project will be - your call on if you are comfortable doing that - but so far we haven't lost a bike to the wild animals... ).

volunteer work party raffles and general fun at Stub

Trying something new this build season out at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park...

In addition to normal member points you'll earn towards end of year raffle, I'll be arranging for having trail work party raffle for those who attend (whether member of NWTA or not!)   Got items lined up for first few build days already - Chris King t-shirt, Republik jerseys, Cane Creek bar ends, some lock-on grips...

Talking to Cayuse Cycles in West Linn about sponsoring food.   Idea is for an after trail work party BBQ back at a campsite.  Now, if I can just line up a brewery sponsor (Deuschutes?) we'll be all hooked up.  Some work parties will feature BBQ and brews after 2pm once the trail work is all done and tools checked in (i.e. once we're all off the clock, so to speak, as NWTA volunteers...)

First work party at Stub will be Sun, March 7.  Check event calendar -- http://nw-trail.org/node/1974

RSVP if you plan to attend so we know how many people to expect!

Additional volunteer work parties for Stub are scheduled...
