Mount St Helens Road Conditions

Winter has set in at Mount St Helens.  Road 81 is now closed at the Cougar Snow Park - at the junction with Road 83.  Road 83 is now closed at the Marble Mountain Snow Park.  Both roads are gated at those locations.  Those areas are open to winter style recreation.  For updated information go to: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/current-conditions/roads.shtml

Kettle Crest up for Wilderness Designation...BAD

Many of you probably already know but the Kettle Crest area in Northeast WA is being considered for Wilderness designation.  Write Senator Maria Cantwell and let her know you think this is a bad idea.  People don't seem to understand that we're great land stewards and we don't leave a negative impact on the areas we use.  We're better for the land and create less of an impact than, dare I say, any other user group!!!

I want to get to this area, it looks awesome, look for a trip to be scheduled next summer!

Siouxon Creek access washed out

Gifford Pinchot National Forest reports that Forest Service Road 54 has a big washout about 5 miles east of Chelatchie Prairie.  That possibly means, once the snow melts, we will probably have a long warm-up road ride to get to the upper trail head for Siouxon Creek.  For updates on road conditions, and a photo of the washout, go to: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/news/2009-storm/

Further details, when known, will be posted here.
