Tarbell Trail

BPA Powerline Proposal threatens trails in SW Washington

As some of you may know the BPA area looking at routes to lay high power transmission lines between Troutdale, OR and Castle Rock, WA. One of the propose routes, segment "O" would cut accross the Tarbell Trail in two places and cross a few more non-motorized trails that the DNR has proposed in the new Western Yacolt Burn State Forest.

I work for the Washington Trails Association and work on SW WA trails. So I am trying to rally the hiking community to submit comments to BPA. It would be great if the mountain bike community got involved too.

Fire in the Western Yacolt Burn area.

Hi Everyone,

If you haven't heard already, there is a fire burning in the Western

Yacolt Burn area.  It evidently started on Saturday and is located

primarily on private (Fibre) timberlands at this time off of the L-1500

in section 35.  The size is estimated at 60 acres, although there has

been some spotting on DNR land.  For those of you familiar with that

area, it is north of the L-1500 near the Larch Repeater site, north of

the Jones Creek Trail system loops and south of the Tarbell trail

system.

We are asking folks to spread the word that any motorized recreation use

has to be confined to the designated Jones Creek trail system loops

only, and we are asking that everyone avoid using the southeastern

portion of the Tarbell trail system until further notice.

Thanks.
