Urban Assault Ride wheels in to Portland (event)
Submitted by DAnderson on Sun, 03/07/2010 - 8:49pm.New Belgium Brewing's Urban Assault Ride is wheeling in to Portland again on May 23, 2010. As in years past this will prove to be about as much fun as can be had on two wheels! To paraphrase their website, UAR loves coming to PDX because we just ooze two-wheeled culture...not to mention beer, music, and funky shops. So if you like two wheels, beer, a funky good time get ready!
Northwest Trail Alliance is a beneficiary of the Urban Assault Ride this year, but we need to provide some volunteers to staff the course! And that's where you come in! We need 30 warm bodies to staff the course, volunteers will receive free swag, beer, and food for your labor! Volunteers will also need to attend a meeting the Thursday before the event. Twelve people signed up during our February meeting, but we need 18 more! How about you?!
Intermediate goup ride from Buxton (B-V) trail to L.L. Stub Stewart State Park (event)
Submitted by Joe Rykowski on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 1:49pm.Enjoy a taste of both the Banks-Vernonia trail from Buxton trailhead to L.L. Stub Stewart State Park and some of the natural surface singletrack shared-use trails in the park (there's more than 15 miles of trails with 80% of them natural surface "dirt") plus a tour of mountain biking only singletrack at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park lead by volunteer trail builders!
We will start from the Buxton trailhead on the Banks-Vernonia Linear State Park trail (the B-V is the longest Oregon state park at 22 miles long). Once in Stub park, we will ride up Hares Canyon trail and then do the mtb singletrack loop (trail not named as of this posting). Total trip is about 10 miles. You should be at least Intermediate level rider - due to the distance and moderate elevation gain involved. Terrain is beginner level.
There will be a presentation/dedication at the access to mountain
biking zone (who knows who ya might see there...?) Unveiling of the
trailhead kiosk and revealing the name of the mountain biking
singletrack trail! A historic moment for sure.
Beg. goup ride from Hilltop Day Use at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park (event)
Submitted by Joe Rykowski on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 1:33pm.Enjoy a taste of a fraction of the natural surface singletrack shared-use trails (there's more than 15 miles of trails with 80% of them natural surface "dirt") plus a tour of mountain biking only singletrack at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park lead by volunteer trail builders!
We will start from the Hilltop Day Use parking area within the park which has a gorgeous view of some of the coast range. Will ride Hooktender shared-use trail over to Hares Canyon trail and up to the access to mountain biking zone then do the mtb singletrack loop (trail not named as of this posting) and return to Hilltop Day Use area. Total trip is about 4 miles. Beginner riders and youth riders welcome (children must be accompanied by parent/guardian)!

Trail Build/Camp/Ride at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park (event)
Submitted by Joe Rykowski on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 1:20pm.
Super sized trail building, camping, and riding weekend! If you've ever helped at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park to build the mountain biking singletrack, then this weekend is not to be missed. We hope to be ready to open the upper trail loop to the public during this event.
Saturday - trail work party (placing trail signage? finishing work?) followed by celebration (CAKE!) back at conference center at Cabin Village
Sunday - group ride(s) for beginner and intermediate level riders lead by the trail builders who brought you the great new mountain biking only trail loop at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park! RSVP to separate event for the group rides.
For Saturday, bring work gloves, snack, and water. Tools provided.
