Three Corner Rock

Fire in the Western Yacolt Burn area.

Hi Everyone,

If you haven't heard already, there is a fire burning in the Western

Yacolt Burn area.  It evidently started on Saturday and is located

primarily on private (Fibre) timberlands at this time off of the L-1500

in section 35.  The size is estimated at 60 acres, although there has

been some spotting on DNR land.  For those of you familiar with that

area, it is north of the L-1500 near the Larch Repeater site, north of

the Jones Creek Trail system loops and south of the Tarbell trail

system.

We are asking folks to spread the word that any motorized recreation use

has to be confined to the designated Jones Creek trail system loops

only, and we are asking that everyone avoid using the southeastern

portion of the Tarbell trail system until further notice.

Thanks.

3 Corner Rock - Trail Report

Trail Report by Jason M ~ "It was in fairly good shape.  The trail was very wet on Friday, with running water going across the trail in a few locations.  The tread was, however, in excellent condition with very little mud.  The entire trail needs trimming, especially near the road at the top, but I've seen it worse in the last few years.  Definitely worth getting out there for a ride."

Willows Gone Wild

Tait and I are heading out to Three Corner Rock Friday morning with the goal of getting up to the summit face to do some pruning along the north side.  We'll be at the trailhead around nine am.  Bring pruning tools and get yer climb on.  Lots of low hanging fruit if yer not up for a summit push.

This is not an NWTA event or ride.  It's me and Tait going to ride and prune.

Three Corner Rock

Yesterday I went to see if I could get to the top of this 3600 rocky promitory.

Wow, what a day, this weather is amazing.  Usually this time of year the upper portions of this trail would be buried in snow.

The trail is in pretty good shape.  Not a tree down and except for a lot of brushingd and some tread work, it rolls good!

I would like to (dis-)organize a casual work party/ride out there in the coming weeks to tackle the brushing and some of the simpler tread repair.  I diverted one stream off of the trail yesterday, but it could use some better armoring and there are a couple other spots that need diversions and water bars.

I usually ride on Fridays so if you are interested in a long hard day of riding and trail work, let me know.

Three Corner Rock Ride!

Date:
Sun, 01/10/2010 - 8:00am - 3:00pm

We have a XC MTB ride leaving from Camas Bike and Sport shop at 8am this Sunday for Three Corner Rock. This is not a beginner ride, as it has lots of climbing and technical aspects, be prepared for lots of switchbacks and possible unmaintained sections of trail (one reason we are going to see what trail work may be needed in near future). Here is some details and pics of trail; http://planetcyclist.com/trails/wa/threecorner.htm
This ride is not set in stone, as bad weather will re-direct us. Depending on the riders that show and weather conditions, Falls Creek or Syncline will be options. Please email us or call if you plan to join us

Three Corner Rock

For those of us in NE Portland, Three Corner Rock is about the closest bonafide mountainous singletrack.  For that reason it has become a favorite of mine for getting a fix.  I started riding out there about eight years ago and since then the trail has slowly degraded: bridges out, brush encroaching and log falls to the point last year after a series of violent wind storms that left the upper reaches of this trail absolutely devastated.
