Siouxon

Lewis River Trail

The Lewis River trail, along with Siouxon, are about the only two trails that are really open right now on the Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument district, Gifford Pinchot NF.   The Forest Service will have a work crew on the Lewis River Trail this week and will be working on that trail.  Give it a week and it should be in great condition.

I've also heard that Jerry D. will be heading over to the Siouxon Trail again (his 3rd trip this year) and will be working on that trail.  Sharp eyes will notice 2011 on at least one log that was a tree blocking the trail.  Thanks for your hard work Jerry!

Ride at Siouxon today, Unless someone else Knows Growlers area and Rather go there

I am currently planning on heading out to Siouxon today - the bus leaving about 9:00am or so if anyone is interested.  I've got an extra spot on the hitch.  As the subject states, I would be up for a ride up around the Growlers/Stella/Longview area... If someone who knows the area would rather go there.  I've only ever ridden up there once, which ended in short (too short) with me walking a bike out from a bad crash.

Contact me if interested in heading out for a ride.

Siouxon Sunday

Meet at Random Order coffeehouse for breakfast and caffinated bevvies.  Be ready to roll out for the trail by 11am.

This will be a slightly quicker paced ride, but with plenty of breaks to hang out and enjoy the beautiful forest and snacks by the waterfalls.  Siouxon has significant exposure, but not a lot of technical trail features.  A few stream crossings and last trail condition update mentioned a couple of downed tress we'll need to hop over.

See you Sunday!

THANKS TO TRAIL BUILDERS

I'm sure this is just another boring post to most, but I thought it seemed noteworthy.  I just rode Siouxon and noticed that Jerry D cut out a bunch of pretty difficult to cut logs, now that entire area (above the junction of the Upper Trail and the Lower Trail that heads over the bridge to Chinook) that was a complete pain to get around is perfect singletrack!  Thanks Jerry, you do an amazing job with that trail!  Thanks to all who help with trails but special props to Jerry for keeping one of SW Washington's gems in top form.  He's also reworked some tread in especially difficult creek crossings and landslide prone dips.  Great day to enjoy the riding we have in our backyards!!!

Siouxon Trail work party

Date:
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 7:30am - 5:00pm

Jarred Jackman is organizing a work party on the upper portion of Siouxon Creek Trail, Nr 130.  He has coordinated two work parties which have made a big dent in previous winter's storm damage.  More work needs to be done to get the upper portion of the trail cleaned up.  As Jarred says: "here's your chance to appease the trail gods with some quality sweat that will be rewarded with some great riding in a beautiful area!!!"
