Join NWTA during our 2024 Membership Drive!

NWTA is hosting our 2024 Membership Drive – and your membership will support some pretty cool stuff (and get you some pretty cool swag!).

Why membership?

As the primary cycling-focused trail advocacy organization in the Portland region, NWTA is a community of people that loves being outside on trails. NWTA works for:

  • TRAILS. NWTA stewards 12 trail systems and 4 bike parks throughout the Portland metropolitan region. That’s over 250 miles of trails and bike features to build and maintain.
  • ACCESS. Riders of all abilities and backgrounds are engaged through youth programming, social rides, and clinics.
  • SUSTAINABILITY. Our work promotes the intersection of recreation and conservation through our Trail Sustainability Institute classes.
  • ADVOCACY. Our collective voice advocates for more bike access and multi-use trails in the Portland metro region.

How does my membership support this work?

Over 80% of NWTA’s total funding is made up of membership donations and sponsorships. Your membership and contributions go DIRECTLY to making an impact on trails and programming. Here’s some numbers:

  • $300 = It costs right around $300 to keep one mile of trail brushed using a team of 6 volunteers running weed brushing machines. With about 15 total clearcut miles of trail between both Rocky Point and Klootchy Creek (and the fact that they often have to be brushed more than once per year), you can see how this definitely adds up!
  • $4,000 = One 8 class after-school youth session , which teaches up to 15 kids the joy of being on a mountain bike, costs  $4000 for staffing and supplies. The value of what kids learn and experience during these classes is priceless, making the impact of your contribution even more powerful.
  • $2,500 = Our annual bulk order of specialized trail tools (think Rogue hoes and McLeods) comes in around $2,500 each year. This is only a fraction of what we budget every year for trail care: tools, trail signage, work party supplies, machine operation costs and machine repairs all make up about $20,000 of routine annual costs.

What do members receive?

You get great, sustainable places to ride! Trails don’t build and maintain themselves, afterall. (See the 2022 Annual Report for a snapshot of all the work that membership dollars support every year.) However, our gratitude for our members runs deep, and so we are fortunate to have additional benefits to being an NWTA member.

You get SWAG! Special to the 2024 Membership Drive, we’re giving away NWTA swag. See the chart below for what new members can expect based on their membership level.
